50s/Main development

Discuss items in the urban core outside of Downtown as described above. Everything in the core including the east side (18th & Vine area), Northeast, Plaza, Westport, Brookside, Valentine, Waldo, 39th street, & the entire midtown area.

yeah, not really a justification for the prices, folks.

i dont know what they rent for now, but the apartments behind the peanut, etc. on Baltimore or whatever have always been super cheap. one of my friends lived in a 2-bed for like $550, although that was about 8 years ago. but hey, it had actual wood floors!
Yea that's what I'm saying. The immediate neighborhood is not upscale at all. Sure if you go a few blocks you can find some upscale housing, but have trouble believing you can find rent even this high. I will be interested to see how well this building rents out. Probably a bunch of really old, rich people.

I wish that the target market was younger people. I want this neighborhood to tie in more with UMKC than Kirkwood, though it is nice that there is money on the west side of the 'hood.

Whatever though, this is still really good for the area. Really hoping the Whole Foods development doesn't fall through.

I think you're underestimating the student demographic, especially the international student with a very favorable exchange rate.

That's a good point. These foreign students do have a lot of money, and I'm sure their parents would be pleased that they live in a brand new, luxury building.

Can't wait to see what this building looks like once it gets its skin.

After checking up on this project the other day, I noticed that this parking garage is going to stick out like a sore thumb. This sucks because it is wrapped nicely, but the north side of the garage will have no building to block it, and my what a big garage it is. The thing is a behemoth.

It seems the only way that this garage will be blocked is if someone buys up Andre's building and builds a tall building on that lot. Now, I would be cool with this (as long as nothing happened to the Peanut of course) but don't see that happening. God I feel like that has to happen now though. Maybe if we're lucky they will put some form of skin on the garage to make it look okay. I'm hoping!

On a positive note the building is looking nice. The entrance has super tall ceilings, so I'm wondering what will go in on the ground floor.

• 4900 Main St., a 12-story, 189,582-square-foot office building with 95 percent occupancy and structured and surface parking.

• 4901 Main St., a four-story, 65,955-square-foot building with 22 percent occupancy and covered and surface parking.

• The 14,768-square-foot retail strip between 4928 and 4980 Main St. that is home to SPIN! Neapolitan Pizza. It was part of a recent award-winning mixed-use renovation.

• A vacant development lot covering 19,381 square feet at the southeast corner of 50th Street and Baltimore Avenue.

I've been there a few times since it opened. Just have to think they are going to be around for a while. They really hit the ground running, are always staffed, and the food I've had there has been great. Never did visit the other locations but I do like this one. Pretty good happy hour food prices and they don't seem to cut the portion size during the happy hours.

I'm very pleased with the brick. We all tend to be ultimately unsatisfied and wish for more with architecture and design (and many times for good reason) but I think we should be happy with this brick work. It has a definite nod to past KC appartment architecture with the blocky balcony outcrops. I really like the angled stairways coming down as well.

Perhaps more appropriate for the KC Scene section, but Andre's new wine bar/cafe is really nice. Enjoyed lunch (sandwich, soup, pastry) and coffee there the other day and it was quite crowded, and very tasty.

Pretty, bright space with windows facing out onto Main Street. It appears that the interior pastry shop area has been remodeled as well, though it had been some time since I'd been in. Clean, modern, European. A more casual way to enjoy Andre's.

Overall a great addition along Main Street and I imagine it will be a hit with the new neighbors to the south, considering the target demographic (empty nesters, etc.).

Meh, doesn't seem to hurt Eggstc or Il Centro. I was rooting for Accuro's, but found it very underwhelming.

Accurso's was gone the moment they left their charming old hole-in-the-wall for the much "nicer" but very generic setting down the street. Can't say I went more than two or three times, as I was never all that impressed. Hoping for good things out of that spot now.

The new Accurso's was abysmal. I don't think they ever heard of oregano, thyme, basil or fennel. The red sauces were essentially ketchup with black pepper. It was the epitome of homogenized KC Italian eats, their DNA completely detached from the Old World.

I didn't realize until reading that article that ownership changed once they moved into the new building, and that a 27 year old kid took over. It's no wonder the quality suffered so much. It was so much more than the horrible new building. I went one time, and it was about the most forgettable meal I have ever had. I think it was like 25 bucks too.

Not a big surprise at all. And to blame it on construction... ha please! Nice try.
