Athletic apparel retail chain Lululemon Athletica is coming to the Country Club Plaza.

The company plans a late fall opening at 444 Nichols Road, next to Burberry.

What are some other shops you'd like to see come to the Plaza? Have to admit that Highwoods is doing very well of late.

Here are some that would add more cache to the district...

Louis Vuitton
Hermès
Marc by Marc Jacobs
Tory Burch
Zara

This is actually a big addition even though these places are all over the Midwest. Lululemon does sales per square foot that are only behind Apple and Tiffany. This is a coveted chain and massively expanding business. Hopefully, the store on the Plaza has a large footprint and is something of a flagship location.

Trailerkid, the stores below would be nice but I don't think the KC market can support them.

Boulevard to open Dry Goods Store on the Plaza for the holiday season
The Plaza is getting a new tenant for the holidays. The Boulevard Brewing Co. will be opening up a Dry Goods Store at 4703 Broadway in mid-September, selling clothing and barware through January [h/t to commenter Rob Lam for noticing the Coming Soon sign].

Would have been cool if they could have worked in home brew type kits to try and replicate their beers.

Culinary school/restaurant to open on Plaza
Highwoods Properties’ old office space on the Country Club Plaza will become a cooking school with onsite restaurant.

Vatterott College’s L’École Culinaire will offer a culinary arts program to prepare the students for entry-level positions in the industry. The students also will operate a restaurant, The Presentation Room, for on-the-job training....

The school could open by December with the restaurant opening on the first floor of the space at 310 Ward Parkway in early 2013.

That's a cool idea. The Plaza location will also give them on the job training in rat control techniques.

They think the Plaza is the best place for restaurants in KC?? The Crossroads would be the leader IMO. Would have been a better location, too! Oh well, still sounds like a great addition to the Plaza

from a business standpoint it sure it.

the plaza has more traffic on a regular basis and more people during the busy season. look at the plaza around christmas and the crossroads around christmas. the plaza has heavy numbers of people 7 days a week for weeks on end. that's what you need to establish a brand

from an urban standpoint and city growth the crossroads is better. and someday it may be a business incubator for more restaurants. it just isn't right now

yep. love the Xroads. love downtown.

but, Plaza is the cultural and social epicenter of the KCMetro area and will be for a long time to come.

ftfy.

cultural "epicenter" of the KC metro is downtown KC, with an outpost in the art museums area.

social "epicenter" is a bit more diffuse, but i would put westport above the plaza, and maybe downtown above westport at this point.

The cultural thing is more diffuse, IMO. The Plaza has the museums, but it's primarily an eating/shopping area after that. The Xroads/DT cultural scene is more event-based, but there's more of it.

It feels like we're at a point where the Plaza and Westport have grown together enough to be counted as a single social entity.

to me, the "Plaza" is the shopping district. i think the Nelson and Kemper are kind of their own thing and, along with KCAI, anchor the "arts/museum" area. they don't really meld with the Plaza shopping district imo, though they are obviously nearby.

potato, potahto i guess.

downtown has the WWI museum, performing arts center, opera, ballet HQ, first friday, lots of galleries, midland, folly, etc.

I'm considering Nelson, KCAI, Kemper, UMKC all part of the Plaza.
