Obviously, "good house" and "happening neighborhood" are subjective terms, but I think there is a fairly wide range of housing options in urban KC for under $200k. You probably won't find anything good at that price in the Westside, Union HIll, or Coleman Highlands but places like Volker, Hyde Park, Longfellow, West Plaza, East Brookside all have a decent supply of housing in that price range.GiveThisManABeer wrote:. It is so hard to find a good house in a happening neighborhood around downtown in that 100-200k mark. And then to spend on the high end seems in vain due to our public school system.
I feel like the school issue is blown out of proportion by the media and people around town, usually based on out-dated perceptions. Yes, the majority of the KCMO public schools are horrible, but there are several that get very good reviews and the number of options is seems to be growing by the year. I know plenty of parents who send their kids to these schools and couldn't be happier.
If you want to stay in urban KC, you should do it!
