For any Hyde Park/Squier Park/Center City residents on here, there is a meeting with MAC tomorrow night at Central Presbyterian. Please try to be there. Meeting starts at 7.

As expected, Mac's proposal for Armour and Troost is having an effect on viability of surrounding properties.

The development of Armour and Troost moves Kansas City forward.

LOOK: Operation Breakthrough Raises Bridge Across Kansas City's Troost Avenue
Operation Breakthrough, a decades-old Kansas City nonprofit that offers educational support and other support services, installed a bridge spanning Kansas City's Troost Avenue over the weekend.

The bridge, built by Kansas City-based JE Dunn, connects the current Operation Breakthrough building with newly acquired space on the western side of Troost. The bridge will provide safe passage for the hundreds of children Operation Breakthrough serves every week.

People really don't like criticism of this bridge.

Did you call it a “honky-tube”?

Or just point out that it would make way more sense just to make the fucking street safe enough for children to cross?

There wasn't anything that said that they couldn't do it, and there was zero political will to steer them away from it. The OB board considered it nonnegotiable. Of course, it was framed as "if we don't build this bridge we will lose an entire generation of kids".

So either
1. their most pressing issue is solved with a bridge, meaning they have no issues at all that needed to be solving
or
2. their issues are so severe that they needed something to distract people from the fact they're near collapse

The most pressing issue, at least as far as that site is concerned, is drop off on Troost Avenue. Front door drop off just north of 31st, under this new bridge and just north of a MAX stop, is very precarious. Children and parents exit out of cars in the midst of u-turns and traffic trying to pass the busses. I appreciate that the primary entrance is adjacent to a bus stop, but as it stands it needs some pedestrian safety improvements. It's a mess.

Clemons Real Estate has posted lease/sale signs for the buildings on the west side of Troost between Linwood and E. 31st Street.

These are the two buildings just north of the Family Dollar store.

Further north on Troost about mid-block.

And further north as we approach 31st and Troost.

Would that skywalk prevent any potential streetcar running down troost in the future?
