New glass tower going up in Chicago (Optima Tower) where the architect/developer clearly insisted on high end glass and man, it makes a difference. Incredible what good glass does for a building, compared to cheaper glazing. Sounds like they went cheap with West Edge.
Mirrored curtainwall in that shade is either 25 years out of date or 5 years ahead of it's time. Reminds me of the Traders on Grand building. Blech.

Probably a very good thing they were not entrusted to build on 47th in the heart of the plaza. I don't understand why companies aggressively seek high profile locations and then proceed to build cheap, run-of-the mill crap on them.

In their defense, it's just the glass that's cheap crap. The rest of it looks pretty good to me. I like the decorative metal screens they have on the top floor.

How do you like what looks like white vinyl windows on the hotel section? Moshe must be screaming "Oy vey!"

NOT white vinyl on hotel windows. Silvery aluminumish metal framing same as on shark tank building to north. Bronze framed windows would look better on Moshe's dark masonry, but they must have been trying to tie it into the look next door. I really don't see any problem with the glass, not all that reflective as late 20th century glass.

I don't have a problem with the glass itself. I just think it looks out of place on the plaza to have the north and south side be full glass.

Cecil Van Tuyl, owner of the real estate trust who owns West Edge/Plaza Vista, and also owner of Van Chevrolet Cadillac, has died.

Saw the building for the first time the other day. Meh, hate it. Hate most everything new around the Plaza. Those detailed townhouses that are near 47th and Roanoke are the only nice new building from the last decade I can think of. Love Valencia Place, too...but it's a little older

I've always liked Townsend Place on 46th Terrace and Broadway.

KCBJ has video of new Hotel Sorella. Looks to be top of the line in KC. Might check in just to take a shower!

In the rendering of the curved lobby space, you can see echoes of what the West Edge atrium was supposed to look like. Interesting.
