KCTV5 tower.

Post by chrizow »

i noticed last night that it appears KCTV-5 (or whoever controls the tower these days) isn't even pretending to light it up anymore.  for the past year, the tower has dwindled from maybe 80% lit to 8% lit to, now, 0% lit other than the flashing lights used to avoid aircraft collisions.

what gives?  this is a KC landmark.  properly lit, it is a beacon of hope that can be seen for miles.  does anyone know if they are changing out the lights, or just giving up altogether?

since they painted the tower recently, i was hoping they were fixing all the lights too.  :(

It's KCPT's tower now isn't it?  They may be cutting the lights for budget reasons.

no, it's still KCTV5, KCPT's studios are just below. KCPT's tower is next to Independence...
One useless piece of information I actually remember from 7 years ago...

Someone should call the Fox 4 Problem Solvers.  They'll get to the bottom of this.

reason #292340984320492897498789 why KCTV-5 is worthless.

Since this tower is an ice dropping neighborhood danger, the city should make them dismantle it and move it to Shawnee Mission PKWY and Roe.

Anybody follow HDTV tech?

Do they use the same towers for the HD signals?  Are these towers still used extensively?

I live on Union Hill and I can tell you that the tower was looking very sad lately.  Then last night, I walk into the bedroom with all the lights off and the strobes on the tower are so bright that they shine through the blinds and everything.  They basically had the tower last night set on "day" mode which meant the strobes were at max brightness instead of how they normally have them set at night...

It looked like a cop was outside the whole night...

OK I'm totally off...never mind my comments above.

So what are those new 1000+ foot tall towers on the east side of the city with the two antenna at the top?  3-4 of them just went up the past 3-4 years.

Here is one of the one's I'm talking about on streetview

I wonder too, whey I fly around them.  Those things kill small airplanes and choppers, well actually their guide wires do.

Not the self-supporting towers such as KCTV but the guyed towers such as the one in the picture. Planes have flown into guy wires with predictable results.

It also doesn't do much for the towers when one or more of their guy wires are severed.
