Did I hear correctly this past week that the Historical Society put ALL of Westport on its list of "endangered buildings" or did I dream that?

It's nice to see us finally recognizing the historical contributions of Insomnia Cookies and the role they played in keeping stoners nourished along the Santa Fe and Oregon Trails.

I haven't seen where the boundary extends to yet, but I hope they included the Mattress Firm strip mall. It housed a Blockbuster at one point. It doesn't get more historical than that.

Selling alcohol is probably the only business that is truly historic.

Could probably sell the same whiskey as they did in the 1830s

Thank you Fang! I totally agree that this does not prioritize individual buildings that are in the most need. So stupid to put all of Westport on an endangered list.

TBF they also put almost all of Kansas City on the list:

-18th and Vine
-Local Modern Architecture
-The Epperson House
-Westport
-Churches
-Closed KCMO Schools
-Neighborhood Commercial Buildings
-Midtown Apartment Buildings
-The Plaza
-The Northeast
-The Sauer Castle

There are two actual structures on that list.

A fire at a different historic Westport strip mall.

They didn’t have working sprinklers. It must be hard to keep these old buildings up to modern code.

Extra security starting today for Friday and Saturday from 11pm-3am

https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/a ... 42645.html

We will know screening "works but doesn't work" if people just change their time or day of the week

This list is incredible. It’s worse than airport security.

One that will get them is people they want people to provide proof an animal is a service dog. This is hubris at its worse. The laws are so clear that this isn’t allowed to the point there’s problems with fake service animals.

Also notice bikes aren’t allowed at all. Bicyclists are just going to take their business elsewhere
