But it's "new" and "funky!"

What, did you want "old-timey?"

Eon Blue, tell me you are being sarcastic.

The designer of this should hide....deep. Dammit.

You can be frugal, but this is simply a butt ugly offense when it could have been good with a modicum of skill and knowledge being applied (maybe $5,000 more, or $34 per mo. in mortgage payment).

If you want symmetry, just compare to the house next door

If your neighborhood isn't at least thinking about creating a design overlay, it should be.

Harrison has some really awesome properties in Central Hyde Park. I love what they did with this one near Armour:

I wish we could really get Troost going around here with local cafes and shops...one day maybe

Well supposedly there will be a cafe going in as part of the KC Arts Ecovillage development right across from that house at Armour and Troost.

Is that thing going to happen? They said they'd start renovating the old Super Market building in January, and nothing's happened so far.

I wish we could find a developer, or some friendly philanthropist / preservationist, to take on the Boulevard Manor Hotel building on the SW corner of Armour and Forest. I'd like to see that property redeveloped with a new retail / residential building on that vacant lot on the SE corner of Amour and Troost.

I don't know if apartments would be the best use for the Boulevard Manor Hotel building, or maybe a private school.

Google street view of the building.

Also seen in the background of this excellent photo:

That's a great building. It was almost torn down a few years ago but the neighborhood intervened, and yada yada, Oliver Abnos now owns it. At one time it was a YMCA of sorts, with rooms for rent on the upper floors and a swimming pool, auditorium, and cafeteria on the lower floors. If you go around on the Forest Ave. side now, you can see through the building to Troost. It's pretty sad. There was a rumor that MAC was interested in the property. Nothing has come of that.

If it has those features, it would be suitable for a community center, or even apartments for seniors.

Yeah, it's still happening - at least according to them. I recently heard they are planning on starting work I believe in July with a goal of completion in the fall.

Interesting. I get the feeling that MAC is using them as a placeholder. But I'm happy to see something go in there.

Curious to know if he was asking the full $250k. The houses don't seem to be listed anywhere online.

Regarding the SuperMarket building, it sounds like EcoVillage is having some issues with MAC over how much work MAC will be footing the bill for.

I found a couple new (I think) renderings of the apartment building being built at 37th & Gillham on the DRAW architects website. One of these was partially posted in January.
