scooter...directly north is the waltower apartments.

Here is a picture of the work on the upper tower. There is also a "window washing" lift on the north side now on the 2nd setback and looked like the supports on the first setback for another one. I assume those are to replace the windows or power wash the exterior.

Does anyone remember the huge red ball that used to be between the two towers? They took it off in 1981.

I can't remember it b/c I wasn't alive then but I have seen many photos, it was a dopplar radar thingy.
The building also used to have a clock on it from the first Fidelity Ntl. Bank Building that was there before the skyscraper was built.

I think I remember seeing it when I was 7 years old in 1981. My parents always took the back route to the urban core when I lived in Independence (Independence Ave to Hwy 291 to Hwy 210 to I-35 S).

As I said in the post above, would have been nice to clean the roof off while they were up there. I THINK the south tower now has new windows, does it not?

When I toured they said the south tower was for elevators and other equipment but with those windows makes it look like it will be liveable???

Yeah, those are definately new windows.

Man, this is like a horrible tease. Slow and steady on this project, I suppose. Has there ever been a projected completion date on this project?

That's a cool pic KCP.

I imagine that building is going to require a lot of time to renovate. It's a big building. I'm sure they had to gut it for the most part, and replace all the heating and cooling ductwork, put in new wiring, plumbing, walls, flooring, etc. Just replacing the windows alone will take a long time. Does anyone know how many windows that building has?

Has anyone been inside the building, and taken any photos from the upper floors?

Is that copper roofing on the towers? Maybe they want to retain the patina of age.

It looks like the south tower is lit up again tonight. Hopefully, it will be an everyday occurence here soon.

Also, the large window facing directly south from that same tower occasionally is filled with a green neon light. I haven't seen either of these lights from distance, has anyone?

I understood this project was scheduled for completion in 2004. Are they still on schedule? Have not heard much about it other than they were excavating for the garage in early December.
