Ugh. Some dude bought it from the Leedys, kicked everyone out and has clearly failed at this renovation.

If only someone could get the Firestone building away from the Abnos family and re-install that sign...

Unpopular opinion: the building would look best without signs

There was work going on at this site today. Maybe it's not a lost cause.

Weinberger Fine Art Opens Second Crossroads Space for Smaller Shows
One of the Crossroads most respected art galleries, Weinberger Fine Art, has opened a satellite space at 1903 Wyandotte to provide artists an opportunity for more individual exhibitions.

Is this really in such high demand that we need a second place?

Is Abbott Properties offices moving to another location? I remember at one point there was talk of a five-story office at 1616 Grand (and two parcels north of it) but that seems to be off the table since the three-story historic brick structure is actually being renovated (for an event-space I think was mentioned)

They have already moved to 800 E. 18th.

1616 Grand will be The Bardot, an event space. I think the 3-story structure (1612 Grand) being renovated might be for office tenants. Both should be ready in December.

The old KC Star lot (used mostly for newspaper truck parking) on the 1700 block of Locust is being prepped for redevelopment. No sale or permits yet.

Some new businesses in Crossroads & Westside I noticed while going through liquor license updates, unsure if any of these have been mentioned yet:

* Grad School, a restaurant from Springfield, in the works for the old Jilly's/Coda spot. https://www.facebook.com/Grad-School-84764887589/ (Springfield location)

* Fox and Pearl, a new restaurant opening at 2143 Summit. Renovation has been underway for a while on the ground floor of the old brick building there. https://www.facebook.com/foxandpearlkc/

* 18th St. Union - 512 E 18th St. Unsure what this is but it's a restaurant application. http://union18.org/

The new location for the Snack Bar will be 1746 Washington.
The restaurant staff themselves are doing a good amount of the finish, interestingly enough. There's a fair amount of personal reportage on people's social media, but no satisfactory journalism about the move.

I don't think Peggy's retaining her lease. There's a rumor that Birdies will also relocate.

In the article, the developers claim to be getting 'hate mail' but don't elaborate. Actual reporting would enlighten this- and perhaps Sight Commercial Realty could be more transparent about their vision/plans and ease people's fears.

I watched her scrape her signage off the windows over the weekend. Safe to say she's relocating. Not safe to assume it's because of the rent.

Peggy has her main shop/showroom in LA now, so I wonder if she will even maintain a presence in KC. I hope so!!
