City Barrel Brewery is not even open yet but it's already moving from 1916 Grand Blvd to 1728 Holmes, the plans are also to be less straight up brewery and more like Brewery Emperial with a full kitchen and executive chef.

Also, does anyone hate the name? City Barrel? It sounds super generic, like the name of a Local Root Beer (City Barrel Root Beer)

The first thing I thought about with the name was City Wok from South Park and how the guy always said Shitty Wok

Two notable things that have been hinted at, but never said by any official entity till now:

- A new 300 room hotel is planned for the land immediately east of the Kauffman Center

- Apartment development planned for the SE corner of Main & 16th (opposite new Hampton Inn)

That development is under property adjacent to the CMH parking lot and a lot that CMH will no longer lease. The main parking lots are still utilized by employees and will be for a while and is available.

Immediately east of it?

That parcel is owned by the Kauffman Center. They refused to sell previously, so it will be interesting to see who the developer is (and the flag!).

The most interesting part of this release is the 3 proposed office towers. I’m sure they are likely vaporware though.(the low rise office projects are probably legit)

There were 2 other images released with the one posted here. 1 for CBD and 1 for RM.

This is the one with the three Office Towers

That would do it.

Aren't #10 and 17 the same two projects that have been promised for over a decade?
And #19 is the same site as has come up for Five Light. So why is it down for an office tower? Do they know something no one else has announced?

Given the crossroads map is missing announcements made before the 2nd (when it was modified) not sure I would call these releases totally accurate beyond what's under construction today.

This is what I was referring to.

Exactly. The 2 proposals seem old yet they are there. Not all of the Copaken vaporware proposals are on the map though(Jenkins) which leads me to a maybe? Maybe they are trying get a move on?

You can move this if need be but had a question in regards to this:
KC does a decent job at attracting small (Less then 10 stores) locally owned retail/restaurant operations from other metros into its downtown core. Business Owners from Des Moines, Omaha, St Louis, Dallas all have stores in our core and this is all within the last 5-7 years.
Wonder if it has to do with workers/owners with ties to KC or do they just like this market? Raygun (Des Moines) opens its 2nd location in KC but to me the most logical and potentially more profitable 2nd location would be Minneapolis just cause its a bigger market and just as far as KC.

Has any of our local grown businesses expanded to other metros to open its 2nd or 3rd location? Not a franchise agreement or anything like that. Unruh Furniture is now in Dallas, don't really know any other small businesses that started here and branched out to open its 2nd store in say Omaha, St Louis, etc.

It's clear that the small shops are taking advantage of the lack of chain retail, but it doesn't tell us why there's a lack of demand from big chains.

Of all the big chains, why isn't McDonalds downtown? They have one at Linwood and another at Prospect, but nothing inside the loop. They have long supported urban stores well.

A good business does a risk analysis. What's the business risk that mcdonalds won't accept but a small chain will and what can be done to change this?

I would be surprised if someone with the city doesn't have a regular discussion with the big chain franchise teams about what they need to get one downtown. If downtown is good enough for a risk adverse chain it will draw more local businesses
