We probably need a thread dedicated to the discussion of Spirits.

I remember them being full-sized barrels.bobbyhawks wrote:Aged for 10-12 months probably means they will be using smaller barrels that are more likely to impart a very oaky flavor. They claim to be trying to avoid the super oaky flavor, so I'm not sure if they will be adjusting through the time in the barrel or by using the barrel for something else first. If they use normal-sized barrels, the whiskey will taste very very young at just a year old and have little color.
I guess they will also house the newer brand of Wicket & Peg, which is a 100% corn recipe bourbon. It is only 80 proof yet costs $50, so they aren't going after hardcore whiskey fiends (at least mostly) but more for people looking to support something local or just getting into neat/rocks whiskey. Hopefully, you will be able to pull some exclusive bottles from the local distilleries where they try things at a higher proof, but it is nice there is a lot of variation going on in the local spirits scene.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
So great to see that partly demolished building at 18th & Oak be rebuilt...even though I thought they were going to keep the collapsed part an open courtyard? Either way, glad to see it being retained!

If the taco place doesn't pan out, Ruins Pub should move there.
Re: Misc Crossroads News
the taco place is well funded, has their liquor license, and has signed a lease.grovester wrote:If the taco place doesn't pan out, Ruins Pub should move there.

Sorry man, bad joke about a damaged building. I love the fact they're leaving the destruction.

Ruins. Ruined building. Boom. Actually a pretty good joke once realized.

Star says Children's Mercy is building a 5 story parking garage adjacent to the hospital and will vacate the enormous parking lot north of the tracks. Kevin Collison tweets it would make a good location for a downtown ballpark.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
Maybe the lot being vacated by Children's Mercy won't become a ball park, but it might go on the market and be developed. That could be a big deal.

It's a superblock, it has a clear front and back so this is a place for a large phased project with parking at the back and active uses at the street.missingkc wrote:Maybe the lot being vacated by Children's Mercy won't become a ball park, but it might go on the market and be developed. Stadium could fit if you take out some industrial buildings on the south side of 19th. That would be the size of current Kauffman land currently (zero parking)
