no. we have no money. that entire project is our northern border and we deserve a voice in the design.

I'd agree...seems like they are in the "how much money will this cost to do anything" phase, not the design phase.

Neighborhoods must be involved at the point someone has figured out which options are even possible

No point in bringing up options that cant be done because the engineering required means it's twice as much as another option.

Kind of like the north loop survey. They came with a few options that were well thought out.

um, no. they are surely not doing a final design, but they must make certain design assumptions (routing of truman, VACATION of walnut, water/sewer impacts, number of blocks included) to get to a cost estimate. we've asked repeatedly to be involved in DTC's discussions and not one peep.

Terrible idea to vacate Walnut as seen in one or more of the Cordish renderings.
Vacation of Main, allowing only the streetcar thru the park, should be looked at. It could force drivers to actually use the other N-S streets in the grid instead of clogging up Main Street from 10th to 16th Street every time there is an event going on downtown.

They should most definitely be involving the Streetcar Authority & RideKC if any street vacations are being looked at.

Vacating main is a great idea

I would think need to be much bigger than one block.

The problem is there's so many destinations still. You're not going to be able to detour someone heading to a parking lot at 18th from taking Main. They'll go around and cut over at 14th and back over at 16th.

The crossroads should have a ban on new curb cuts onto Main and a plan to close the current ones.
Get rid of the cuts, a train only street from Truman to Pershing could be doable. The corridor is well placed for reduced parking requirements over time.

I would say this would be a good item post UMKC streetcar extension. Build that, reduce KC sourced traffic from midtown and look at improving streetcar travel speeds in the crossroads.

The river market, that's doable today. 5th and Delaware could easily go train only just by turning Missouri and Main into a two-way and have an allowance for alley access. Keep Grand and 3rd for car traffic.

if your focus is streetcar speed and reliability (the only reason to dedicate space to transit), you don't need to remove cars from main street in the crossroads. you need to remove them from truman to 12th. a simpler fix for the crossroads section would be to reduce or eliminate the on-street parking.

Cap to cost $140 M. Would create ~$500m in value. Per New HNTB study.

Have the city and Cornish split the cost of capping the loop and the originally agreed upon parking garage. Win-win, done deal.

That's way cheaper than I expected

fyi; here's the cityscene posting. seems like this proposal is still a long ways off from becoming a reality.

Exactly. I think everyone wants this done but there just isn't enough private funding to help kickstart this.
