all i know is that's a pretty sweet tiger photo in the guest room. I'd be quite disappointed if i were to stay in the hotel and NOT get a tiger photo.

Checked out the http://www.grandhotelkc.com website tonight, only to be redirected to the http://ambassadorkc.com/ website.  Looks like they've changed their name.

Hotel developer ‘sees good things’ ahead for P&L District
Tulsa, Okla., hotel developer Paul Coury credits Kansas City’s Power & Light District as the reason behind his renovation of the Gate City National Bank.

The boutique hotel under construction at 1111 Grand Blvd. is expected to open in time for baseball’s All-Star Game in July at Kauffman Stadium.

Went there on a Friday night with the wife and a friend. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks and checked out the menu (they weren't open yet, obviously.)

The main floor bathrooms weren't finished either, and there were boxes of tiles, etc sitting around. Overall, I liked the swankyness of it. The bar was pretty bare, they admitted they opened hastily for the All Star Game and just had a minimal bar set up for the convenience of the guests. The bartender was super nice, very bubbly but not annoyingly. She made great conversation with the three of us, and I gave her the run down on KC (she was pretty new to the area, lived in Smithville, but has been in the hospitality industry for many years with her husband).

We asked to see a room and it was quite small. Most boutique hotels have small rooms anyway though. Looked like good quality finishes. I was told rooms were around $179 a night during the All Star Game, I don't remember how many rooms they said they had.

I have a couple pics on my phone of the room, I'll get them uploaded here soon.

Ambassador Hotel transforms from high-risk to high-end
It was a close call for the Ambassador Hotel.

If developers hadn’t renovated the building at 1111 Grand Blvd., it would have collapsed within a year, the project’s architect predicted.

Went to the Ambassador on Saturday night and was ultra impressed. Talked to the front desk and all 43 rooms were completely booked.

Very nice addition to downtown. Not as nice, of course, as the city taking out the wrecking ball to raise this bulding for some much needed more asphalt surface parking along Grand. But, still, nice for Kansas City.

I can confirm that the crowd was mostly a birthday party I attended. Great bar set up. Beautiful place!

My wife and I stayed a night at the Ambassador on 12/30. Had a great time and I would recommend the hotel to anybody looking to stay downtown. For those with the hotel tonight app it's found on there almost daily.

Not sure when it happens but The Ambassador will be apart of the Marriott Autograph Collection which is what the Raphael is under. Marriott has a huge dominance in the Urban Core
