Amazon searching for second HQ
Re: Amazon searching for second HQ
The City's Twitter account mentioned that they will bid on this, BTW.

To be big you have to think big. I expected nothing less.swid wrote:The City's Twitter account mentioned that they will bid on this, BTW.

Pipe dreaming a bit, but if we were to score Amazon and get the airport done, I have to think there'd be sufficient demand (and the newfound logistical feasibility) to support direct flights to international destinations. This could end up being a monumental confluence of events in the history of KC. I mean, probably not going to happen, but holy hell if it did...

How many American cities over 1 million have a huge downtown plot of land just sitting there ready to develop? Give Amazon the East Village. They can build towers and take the whole area. Google Fiber + Low cost of Living + Vibrant downtown + Light Rail/Highway Access + New Airport(?) + Central location = perfect choice. It would take downtown to an entirely new level. They could benefit from the midwest work ethic while making KC a 2nd hub.

You know they'll call it that once it becomes a "neighborhood". I'm just trying to prepare you all.chingon wrote:Gross.JBmidtown wrote: in the NoLo

After we get rid of the North Loop we can call it LoMa. LowerMarket.JBmidtown wrote:You know they'll call it that once it becomes a "neighborhood". I'm just trying to prepare you all.chingon wrote:Gross.JBmidtown wrote: in the NoLo

Bloomberg doesn't think mid-tier cities like Austin, Charlotte, Raleigh can accommodate what Amazon wants. They are thinking Toronto, Boston, Washington, Atlanta, Dallas or Denver.

There is no way Boston, Toronto, DC, and in the other link NYC would make the cut, i just think the real estate is simply way to expensive to build something of this scale. Unless Amazon wants to build in Newark or Providence then it makes sense but Boston and NYC just seem unfeasible in my opinion.
At one time Seattle was a Mid-Tier city

Yeah, I too would have excluded NYC, Boston and Toronto because of the cost, but if money isn't an issue, so be it.
Atlanta, DC (burbs), Dallas, Chicago, Tampa would have to be early favorites with a field of metro areas with 2m plus people in contention. I could also definitely see them settling in a city like Philly considering its density, transportation network, access to DC and NYC, and relatively affordable cost of living compared to the other top ten markets

if only county line whatever it's called wasn't so damn confusingly named, surely the presence of oklahoma joe's kansas city bbq shack would have been the difference maker in our dark horse campaign to woo jeff bezos

Kind of odd this AP wire is out given many cities likely to compete.

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ
Isn't the entire thing kind of odd and possibly a publicity stunt? They probably already have a city lined up? Wonder what kind of backlash Walmart would get if they did the same thing today instead of Amazon. Cities like Boston probably wouldn't even submit anything and many people would criticize the entire thing as being tacky. This whole thing is like the Willy Wonka of HQ selectionsearthling wrote:Kind of odd this AP wire is out given many cities likely to compete.
