A seven-story Hampton Inn hotel on the northeast corner of 16th and Main is expected to start construction in October, a project that is reinforcing the Crossroads reputation as the hip place to stay downtown.

“It’s a perfect fit, right on the streetcar and near the incredible restaurants in the Crossroads,” said Leif Busby, a representative of the project developer, Windsor Aughtry of Greenville, S.C.
The $25 million project is being done without tax incentives. It will include retail space along 16th and Main streets.

Rail drives development is such a myth

The article mentions that 100 parking spaces will be available on the SE corner of 16th/Main. Does anyone know whether the folks behind the Hampton development own that surface lot or just leasing spaces from another owner? Just wondering how future development of a surface parking lot directly on the streetcar line would be affected if it's tied up by the hotel?

That is probably why the Hampton Inn is being built with no incentives, because they aren't having to build a parking garage.

The developers of the Hampton Inn don't own that lot on the SE corner of 16th and Main. That entire block south of 16th is owned by Brad Nicholson.

Marriott across the street built a garage and didn't use incentives

If for whatever reason this hotel doesn't succeed, with those balconies it would be great candidate to convert to residential...

Fences went up around this property and they started clearing out the parcel just to the north (taking trees down). It looks to be moving forward!

Looks like they're doing drainage work on the east side, thought I saw a new stormwater box but it's still mostly a concrete parking lot. Lots of vehicles coming and going

So the underground utility phase is clearly underway

FYI - I noticed a base for a tower crane onsite here earlier this week.

The base was located on the NE quadrant of the development site. Just as an FYI - I only saw it out of the corner of my eye, so I didn't see if the location was permanent or not.

Crane is fully assembled now in the NE corner of the site. It's a baby one!

Not sure if this has been mentioned or not but according to hotel group a fully licensed Starbucks will be on-site

As trivial as a Starbucks is, this is a great addition to the Xroads IMO.

Major metros have Starbucks every few blocks. As density and population increase (think 2/3/4 light) they will definitely open one in P&L.

It's two blocks away? Does that really make that much of a difference?

Plus we don't even know the service level of this thing. I'm guessing it'll be on par with a Starbucks kiosk you find in a grocery.
