would be nice if they could use that to somehow tie the riverfront park area to city market in a more pedestrian friendly way. Especially with all the apartments going in down there, need a way to discourage people from walking on the Grand to Front street bridge.

They have 60 customers. Probably just stopped being economical to run two systems

Veolia parcel is highlighted. City owns two small adjacent parcels to north, KCPL adjacent parcel at 2nd and Grand and large square parcel to west.

This is really nice!
One thing I've thought for a long time, and maybe it's still a few decades down the road, is how cool it'd be to eventually get the plant totally cleaned up and converted into something else. Maybe a downtown casino? What would be cool about it, is they could clean up the stacks, and put a steam generator with red lights like on Liberty Memorial. Thought that's a while down the road since they are still operating as a plant.

Which casino in Missouri would you forcefully take the license from to build a new one? The state has a legal maximum on the number of licenses.

Be nice if the city could get a little of that space and redo the grand flyover to make it more than a car bridge.

Next stupid question?

That would be great; right now the only way to walk to Berkley on a route intended for Pedestrians is via the Town of Kansas Bridge. With hundreds of people moving into the new development down there and steadily increasing park usage, hopefully this is addressed soon.KCPowercat wrote:Be nice if the city could get a little of that space and redo the grand flyover to make it more than a car bridge.

The bridge has been addressed before and I remain firm in my opinion that whomever is responsible for not adding a ped/bike lane should be imprisoned for life without parole. And in solitary confinement, if available.
I toured the Veolia plant a few years ago. For many years, they have alternated between coal and gas, choosing whichever was most economical at the moment. Be certain, this decision is purely economical. And they still supply quite a bit of power to buildings downtown, as well as the expanded Cargill plant in the East Bottoms, who spent millions to run the pipes there.

Let's just make it a no car bridge.

I feel like that's where the road runs into that event space... Which their outdoor space seems private but by that map platting I wonder if they just took it over due to nobody else using it.

Walnut north of 2nd continues to be a public thoroughfare with public art placed in the middle of the street, providing traffic calming, artistic interpretation of the Missouri River and defacto event space patio.

It's definitely not a thoroughfare. It's all the other things but it's the exact opposite of a thoroughfareloftguy wrote:Walnut north of 2nd continues to be a public thoroughfare with public art placed in the middle of the street, providing traffic calming, artistic interpretation of the Missouri River and defacto event space patio.
There's no geographical barrier requiring one to drive on the 200 block of Walnut to get anywhere. You can't even take that segment of road to try and go through the area to anywhere to the north because it's blocked.
It's a terminal road that provides access to a specific destination and nothing else.

I have a feeling the site will site undeveloped for a long time due to environmental issues that might be expensive to clean up. Add to that the fact that it's surrounded by electrical substations and railroad tracks.

The newly-opened development site to the northwest of Second and Grand offers views of the Missouri River and historic ASB Bridge, and is near the new streetcar line through the River Market. It’s biggest drawback is a Kansas City Power & Light substation that borders it to the south.
“Mixed-use, residential and commercial, is being discussed,” said Scott Stordahl, Veolia general manager. “I don’t forsee too much this year, but next year I believe it will hit.”
