Without doing a search for past 1721 Walnut renderings...I think these are newer renderings than what have been posted.

Timeless minimalism is difficult to pull off and can easily look cheap if not. It looks they are going as cheap as possible under the guise of minimalism. Xroads badly needs infill but hopefully we see better quality developments more often than not.

I was under the impression that this development included retail..it doesn't look like it in this picture though.

Well crap, this is right where I normally park for free. There are some really great buildings on this block and I think it has a lot of potential. This building is fugly comparatively.

I agree. A lot of design and architecture today isn’t about luxury, comfort, or beauty. It’s all about less labor, cheaper materials and maximum profit. Imagine this picture absent of any furnishings [could be mistaken for a commercial work space or store front]…and yet they will demand a premium for rent.

Of course, add some streetfront retail and it looks like 1914 Main to me.

They're selling this "look" or style to people because it is the current trend...and the current trend just so happens to be less expensive to build. How convenient.

Must say, I dig this look. I think these guys did a bang up job on 1914 Main, I hope this ends up just as nice.

I may sound like a critic of the style, but I actually like the outcome. My point is that developers benefit from a less labor intensive design, which they don't discount.

The developer will charge whatever the market will be.

I don't mind the exterior, but I'm so not a fan of the interior. IMO the whole minimalistic and industrial feel is not welcoming, unless the building was industrial to begin with. When developers do it w/ new construction it just comes off as contrived at best. Honestly, I would like to see some softer finishes or something more classic and comfortable. Just my opinion though...

If it ends up being as sweet as the interiors at 1914 Main, you'll love it!
