Marriott in trouble because of lighting display

Post by tat2kc »

Some power hungry goobers at city hall have sanctioned the marriott for occasionally having their name flow across the city lights display. They supposedly did not get "permission" from the codes administration. This is the kind of petty, childish, meddling that puts off businesses. I mean, come on! This is not an inexpensive display for the Marriott. They have added a significant amount of beauty to the downtown loop, and did so at their own expense. If they flash their name across the side of the building evey once in a while, so what?

Someone at the codes administration got their panties in a was cause they were not consulted. They need to f**ckin grow up!!

(its in Hearn Christopher's column in the Star)

Jeeez Kay, where's ServiceFIRST on this one? More of the same problems with one hand fondling and the other hand slapping. Not a good sign when even a big city-subsidized business gets smacked down for participating in a high-profile event sponsored by the Downtown Council and City Hall itself.

These are the people that hold this city back. Get rid of them all, Wayne!

They should be put in stocks in the public square and mocked until they cry like babies.

So true about these losers....This makes me very angry because we have people at city hall who crack down on lighting displays and sipping wine at First Fridays, but can't fix our crumbling streets, bridges, and parks!!!! Parts of Downtown look like Beirut and they are worried about Marriott flashing their name on own their building. Get a f@#$ing clue!!!!!

City Hall has its priorities backwards. It looks like Cauthen needs to clean house even more up there with these fools.

Surely they can turn a blind eye to these types of things selectively like they do so many others like code violations on buildings and vacant lots. Executive Hills didn't do any maintenance on the Empire Theater for more than 15 years, and the west brick facade was on the verge of collapse. It only got fixed after I complained by email to all city council members and the mayor, and met with two council members with photos in hand to show how bad it was.

so true! We have vacant buildings, with glass and debri falling onto the sidewalks, we have occupied buildings in poor shape, we have so many ugly buildings downtown. Then we have the Marriott, which absorbed the cost of this display, which got so much excelllent press for the loop, and then someone in the codes office throws a tantrum because they were not consulted.

It would have been a simple thing for the codes administration to call the marriott, explain the issue, and issue the permit so that everything was in order. This would have been a much better solution than sanctioning them. I did find it interesting that the director of that department stated in the paper that it was a "delicate" subject right now. I wonder if someone in the office got their ass chewed for making this an issue in the first place?

Remember KC MO's reputation for not being cooperative or good with business...now we know why.

Sounds like Cauthen doesn't quite have control of all the departments yet. Many departments are making strides in becoming more user-friendly (both to businesses and residents), but appareantly not the codes people.
