Designed by BSA LifeStructures, the nine-story tower will be constructed above an existing eight-level parking garage with four above-grade floors. It is located near the southeast corner of 23rd Street and Gillham Road in Kansas City.

Pretty significant structure, should be around 140 ft tall?

Maybe more than that. These types of uses have tall floor heights due to the generous space they build in above the ceiling for all the systems.

Elevations in the drawing set on the city's development tracker site indicate ~185' from ground to roof (top of staircase is another 15' taller)

That Children's Mercy tower will became a significant piece of the Crown Center/Hospital Hill skyline.

You need to flip that 90 degrees and put it on top of the garage just south of 23rd st

this is a 2008 aerial (bottom center in the image). The parking garage it’s going on and the building next to it with the hospital name hadn’t been built yet in this view.

the new tower will be oriented east-west, fronting the south side of 23rd st. That image shows it oriented north-south north of 23rd, between 22nd and 23rd.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure of the exact location other than 23rd & Gillham from the article.
The east-west orientation will make it even more pronounced.

3000 employees in a 9 story building? That's over 300 employees per floor. Are these real employees moving in or is that a projection of future employment potential? That possible with large floorplates but the 23rd and Gillham site is not that large, only slightly larger than the office I work in and we have 128 people per floor and it's extremely tight.

3 shifts? 7 days a week?

As for the capacity, it is a total of 375,000 square feet with 140,000 sq. ft of shell space for future growth. Included in the new space is also a 400+ seat auditorium (Sorely needed)

I could see even a couple shifts working for this.

two shifts and 235000 sq feet gives 160 sq feet per person across the whole space. Three shifts, 320.

320 sq feet is approx 18x18. That's a lot of space on average.

Seems reasonable the space is big enough for 3000 workers.

This is once of the nicest high rise buildings proposed (that will actually get built) in the urban core of KC in a very long time from an architectural standpoint. I really like this. And even though it's technically only nine stories, because it's on a parking structure and on a very high elevation, it will be a significant addition to the Crown Center skyline.

Three Victorian houses on the 2500 block of Cherry (south of the dental school) are being demolished. They are owned by the Ronald McDonald House organization.

WTF, those are beautiful historic homes!!! What are they putting there? There are already three large surface parking lots in the area looking at google maps.

That's a shame, hopefully it's for a new/better use like another RMD house or something similar? I know the wait list for them is still excessively long.

I never saw anything for this on the development tracker. Doesn't look like the RMD website has any news to share either.

The FB thread says that Powell Gardens is putting in a park there.
