OFFICIAL - Hilton Home2 Suites Hotel (20th & Main)
Re: OFFICIAL - Hilton Home2 Suites Hotel (20th & Main)
a friend of mine lived and ran a haunted house out of the hotel north (i think) until it was demolished for the walnut flyway.

How many years was the Walnut flyway there? 1992-2015?
Re: OFFICIAL - Hilton Home2 Suites Hotel (20th & Main)
i would say it appeared earlier, probably mid-80s? you'd only need to find a pic of union station around that time to confirm.FangKC wrote:How many years was the Walnut flyway there? 1992-2015?

Was there a reason we needed the flyway? What was so important on Walnut that we needed the flyway?

It was converted to two-way in 2006.pash wrote:Did Main's one-way conversion happen? I think so, but I don't recall.

1% of the project's cost will be used to fund art along 20th street.
Re: OFFICIAL - Hilton Home2 Suites Hotel (20th & Main)
i'm told when the city tore down buildings for the flyway, they just left the foundations so they had to do lots of excavation and fill on this site. updated rendering shows minimized "car hole", ground-floor retail, and public art -- all the result of feedback from the community and city planning.

I'm still not a fan of the materials and awful color choices, but I will say it looks a lot better than the original renderings.

While not great mixing up tones and surface layers are better than monotone/flat surfaces. Far better than original renderings. It's a waste of broad space to build something so short overall.

Concrete is being poured, at least when it's not raining. Should go vertical soon.

The base for the floor is up, looks like they're finishing up concrete work below it and will pour the floor soon. Should start to go vertical.
Just with what's there the block already looks drastically different from the streetcar
