For reference, there have been multiple designs before the current design which went through multiple facades

Stop complaining about this hotel. It's an excellent infill project that brings a new and well-known brand to KC. The hotel market is at saturation and couldn't support a bigger hotel (e.g. 2000 rooms) yet.

KC is not Chicago -- we are competing with Indianapolis, Louisville, Memphis, St. Louis and maybe Denver/ATX/Nashville on a good day.

You don't need 2000 rooms to build a 30-40 story hotel. There are plenty of examples of 800 room hotels that are 35-45 stories tall and have a very sexy, skyline changing design.

They went with the L shape because it's cheaper and because the hotel has a lot of public financing, that's probably a good thing. I think it will look fine.

While KC could really use a couple of skyline changing towers of 40 stories or more. I think all the infill of 10-25 story buildings is better for the city. I would rather see the crossroads fill in with mid rises than see new skyscrapers downtown.

And while there are some nice looking tall hotels, those original Hyatt renderings (the first taller one) have always looked hideous to me.

Regardless of the architecture, the building will be fantastic. It fixes an eyesore hill and resolves an enormous elevation change

There are a couple new renderings located on the Compass KC Permit site...

Go to to 'Attachment' tab for this permit.

There are two files that are worth downloading - the one titled 'Event Lawn UR Submission' and another called 'NE Expansion Drawing.' The event lawn one has rendering of the outside space above the Wyandotte entrance and the other has street-level views of the NE entrance.

BTW both downloads behaved a little weird for me. Just click on the link and wait about 20-30 seconds (otherwise there is no feedback that you've actually clicked anything.

So a restaurant bump out, bike rack and monument sign are being added to the Northeast corner along with an elevated garden above the drop off circle.

Also, have the basement Fedex and long term bike parking been in the plans from the beginning or are they new?

I haven't eaten at one, but isn't Palm a nice addition to downtown's restaurant scene? Not something you see on every corner. Anyone here with a first-hand review?

The people that did these renderings should send at least the 3D models of the chairs to the people doing the new KCI terminal. The KCI renderings always look like something a middle school tech ed class would come up with.

Anyway, it's pretty incredible how massive this building looks even though its only like 24 stories.

Wow. KC (potentially) getting a Palm would be a big win. It’s one of my favorite spots in the hamptons and is well know. Not surprising that it’s (potentially) being added given the Tisch family connections.

Devotees of the KCP & L Blding should rest assured now that the Loew's will not significantly affect the view of the bldng from the LM deck. From the west of the LM tower the height of the hotel will only graze the second setback. From east of the tower the entire east silhouette of KCPL down to the street is revealed. When complete will be interesting how the horizontal windows of the hotel compare to the vertical KCPL.

A large mobile crane is on site. Does anyone know if this was planned or being done to keep on schedule?

They did a steel structure lift for the top floor of the ballroom space. It could be related to this.

The mobile crane was used to lift steel roof trusses to the top of the meeting space wing. Since there is no floor above to support, trusses were faster and lesss expensive.
