Ya it just goes to photobucket and puts a big ad in front that can't be closed for some reason. I'm sure I'll see it later when I'm on my desktop but photobucket has definitely gone downhill.earthling wrote:^It's not my pic, someone else posted in another thread. ^Refresh again.
Imagine a 4th building to the left with approximately same external building materials. Then imagine each building entirely unique designs with entirely different external building materials.

Imagine something like this replacing a wall of 4 buildings leaning towards the same appearance. Not suggesting these particular designs but the notion of having 4 completely different buildings with different external materials...
Of course the one on the far right of skyline will be the current Two Light.
Thoughts?

Let's also not forget to imagine how new buildings going up in the cross roads may end up blocking out part of the "wall"earthling wrote:^Refresh again.

Maybe in 10 years, maybe in 50. Xroads might have very little if any hirise development long term. There are still large lots open in the loop, like 8th/Wyandotte area more suitable for hirise. So you are ok with 4 in a row approximately the same vs mixing it up per the above? The cookie cutter wall could possibly be avoided if speaking up now.

Oh no. I totally agree that they should mix it up. But I think that some mid sized buildings in Crossroads will help to recreate a more natural stepped feeling. Which would make it look better. But I do think thy should try to mix it up.earthling wrote:Maybe in 10 years, maybe in 50. Xroads might have very little if any hirise development long term. Don't forget that on the left of these (west) 3 towers there is going to be another blocky, glass, -23+ floor hotel that will complete the front "wall." I'm in no position to judge but I do hope the decision-makers keep all of these things in mind when planning Three and Four Light.

^Right, that's what I was indicating, another 4th building to the left of your rendering that will be convention hotel with potentially same/similar glass/material feel - potentially an even longer monotone wall. And thanks for letting me re-host your pic. But why are you in no position to judge? It's our city and these projects are getting city aid. If you want better, speak up.

What could CFRG possibly be able to sue the developers/city for now?

Four Light will have a half block gap in between it and Three Light.NorthOak wrote:Don't forget that on the left of these (west) 3 towers there is going to be another blocky, glass, -23+ floor hotel that will complete the front "wall." It also will be turned 90 degrees.
So not exactly the same as a wall.

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)
Well, in today's society you can sue for just about anything...so it probably depends on who their lawyer is and what they think will create the most harm to the project. It is too bad as CFRG is anti- just about everything....miz.jordan17 wrote:What could CFRG possibly be able to sue the developers/city for now?

It's exactly as I stated, a wall on the south side.

^Dave helped make my point. Each building with different building materials/facades in Chicago vs what KC could end up with.... Potentially 4 buildings in a row with about same appearance. A monotone wall.
It's a subjective debate of aesthetics of course and some are just happy to get this amount of needed development so avoid being critical. Good having a healthy debate about what could happen than if nothing is said and developers do whatever is most cost effective for them. Two common compliments about KC's skyline are that it's mixed up and isn't boxy. It might not be too late to influence Three, Four Lights and Convention Hotel to have completely different external material/facades than Two Light as they could source different materials from other projects in other cities for economies of scale.

But how much did the glass cost in Dave's pic?
