modot pledged to downtown stakeholders to match the replaced bridge as closely to the new main street bridge as possible. procurement will be design/bid/build.

Any way we can leverage this to cap the loop? Will creating these separate bridges remove the possibility of having the design that we want in the future when it is capped?

Just look at MODOT's timetable. Better move fast with a plan.

the best we can hope for is that it doesn't hinder the lid plan. we'll probably get wider sidewalks and and added noise abatement (two key improvements made to the main street bridge over the rest in the south loop).

Could we get them to make the bridge wider? Like, maybe 300-something feet on both sides wider? Then cover it with grass or buildings?

By now you have probably heard that the Grand Avenue bridge over I-670 is slated for emergency replacement this summer. You may also be aware of Grand’s significance as a key bike, pedestrian and transit corridor across greater downtown KCMO — buffered bike lanes will soon run a significant length of Grand.

Mid America Regional Council is taking public comments on the design of the new bridge.

entire project supposedly put back out to bid, but haven't been able to confirm first hand. not gonna happen this year, regardless.

lessons: don't use federal funds for paint, find a competent project manager, you can't (and shouldn't) please everyone.

None of this makes me optimistic for what the Paseo project or the Northeast projects will look like.

It sells coordinating with repaving projects and road diets rather than just trying to paint separately.

Need to repaint then anyways so piggyback on the necessary cost and make it happen.

They should put one on the roof of the Cosentino's garage in that park next to the boxcar--to appear like a large tumbleweed.

Did MDOT already have a new bridge replacement design approved for Grand before the cracks appeared that required this emergency demolition? Or will they have to quickly put in a standard generic bridge quickly?

The reason I ask is will the new bridge be enhanced to improve the pedestrian experience (wider sidewalks, art, better screens/walls, landscaping)?

The highway department and the city of Kansas City said the new Grand bridge will include bike paths and wider sidewalks.

Putting a bike path down Grand, with among the busiest car traffic through downtown, is the opposite of common sense. Walnut makes much more sense for bike path.
