Spoke to someone that was pushing to get rid of this concert the other day and they said that rockfest is only gone this year but will be coming back after that. Anyone know if that's true?

Maybe they are letting some grass grow again. I still think the Speedway makes the most sense for this type of event.

Article in The Star said the organizer had wanted to change the date to the first weekend of June, but that weekend was not available at Penn Valley Park. Said the move to the Speedway was about giving folks more room to move around and better parking. However, they're keeping attendance capped at 50K, and nothing in the article let me to think it was a permanent move now that I think about it.

Unless the Speedway is more expensive. Wasn't Penn Valley free and they had some kind of special city agreement? I think the transition to move back to Penn Valley is easy, they can say that the customer base is spread through the entire metro and Penn Valley is the most central location. They can also say that bands liked the downtown area and maybe they played at after party shows in the downtown area after the event. When its out at the Speedway you kind of lose the after party aspect. I'm sure people got hotels downtown just for rockfest then went to places like Angels Rock Bar

Looks like Rockfest is here to stay at the Speedway? They are back this year.

I think it should. People go into these concerts and ruin the grass and trees and leave trash everywhere. They can have those concerts somewhere else.

Is this even a thing anymore? I noticed there hasn't been anything on the 98.9 website or any kind of countdown, is Rockfest finally dead in KC? You would think something would have been announced by now
