It makes me sad the the stained glass windows taken out of the Savoy are being sold off piece-by-piece on Craigslist.
Wow, agree. Too bad they couldn't just be hidden away in the basement or something, until the next owner/concept. Always thought those looked great in the Savoy, original or not.

IIRC those portions aren't original and are a lower quality compared to the original glass in the grill. My theory is that they were added in the 60s to obscure the blight taking place to the north

Sounds like 21c bookings have been strong recently. They were at 100% occupancy last night.

The big main dining room is now just another art gallery space.

Good move. They created one of the most sterile fine dining rooms I've ever experienced. I haven't been back for a sit-down meal since shortly after the opening.

The food at the Savoy is some of the best in town. When I dine in the bar, and that's the only place I've dined there, they usually give me the bar menu but they will serve you anything off the regular menu.

Unfortunate in that the business wasn't there but I agree with Dave, probably a good move. Assuming they added tables and chairs in the old/bar room to accommodate additional guests?

The couple of times I've eaten at the bar (and I did enjoy it) I remember it being some lounge-y between the bar and the original booths along the wall.

This is the right move. Now, they should remove the couches in the bar area and fill the space with small tables. It still would be move casual than I would like but it would be packed all the time. I thought they might convert the dining room to a breakfast space when I first went there at opening. It has more of that feel. And DT could probably use a good breakfast/brunch place.

Banksia is quite good, and around the corner...

Not to mention the Mildred's that is relocating to the space right behind Banksia.

Was thinking more a breakfast restaurant like First Watch or Le Peep.

I worked at 9th and Wyandotte 2007-14. It’s dramatically improved since my first day,

I just don't know if they've reconfigured the old bar for more covers?

Some of KC's best old buildings are along that stretch. New England Building, Bunker Building, NYL Building, the Scarritt Complex, 909 Walnut, Grand Ave Temple, Pickwick.......

I just wish we could get the empty parcels on 9th Street around the Savoy filled in. That street was Kansas City's first concentrated hotel district when the streetcar line ran there from the West Bottoms.

The buildings that remain are the Cosby Hotel, Bunker Hotel; Orient (Delmar) Hotel (now the Stillwell Building); Savoy Hotel, Pickwick Hotel, and the Blackstone Hotel.

So they have basically cut their covers by 75/%? Probably fine but I could see some dinner guests (and their check amounts) annoyed by an active bar scene.
