Been a while since any permit related to this project has come through, but one came through on Friday.

Its a CRTF - Commercial Tenant Finish Review, which looks over the plans for the interior of the renovation.

I've been off the permit watch for a while, so I went back to see what I missed and found this:

KIVA Permits for 21C Museum Hotel

It includes links to a very detailed Tenant Finish permit and a couple more recent inspections. The Tenant Finish permit had activity on it yesterday. Regardless, it looks like serious planning in underway.

Let's hope there is some activity here soon.

I noticed on my walk to work this morning that there were a few moving vans in the alley alongside the building. But was quiet by the time I walked back by for lunch. Last week I also noticed a group of electricians going inside. Judging by the increase in activity and permits, I would hope construction starts soon!

Checked permits today, it looks like a few more submittals were approved.

The last plans that need to be approved (LAND DEVELOPMENT DIV PLANS REVIEW) were submitted yesterday. I have no knowledge of the timeline, but I would guess that work will begin very soon.

Is the lot directly to the east of Savoy part of the hotel? It is always vacant and chained off.

There's two lots to the east of it. The northern one is.

Ok, it will be nice to see this (hopefully) cleaned up a bit. So many lots in the north loop that kill the urban feel...

An ambitious renovation of the Savoy Hotel into a sleek new 21c Museum Hotel keeps getting pushed back. The Nashville-based company, which obtained an option to buy the historic property in mid-2013 and sold or gave away its historic artifacts, now says construction of its 120-room luxury hotel will begin “by the end of the year,” nearly two years after its first estimated start.

...21c Museum Hotels is expected to request an amendment in the TIF plan approved for the project in October 2013. It will be heard during the Aug. 10 TIF Commission meeting, she said.

I looked in the TIF packet for the August meeting, and the amendment to the approved plan for the hotel has the following dates:

Completion of Demolition & Abatement: October 31, 2016
Commencement of Construction: December 31, 2016
Completion of Construction: December 31, 2017
Open 21C Museum Hotel: March 31, 2018

I am not a subscriber to the Business Journal so I could not read the article Dave posted. So the question is - Does the Savoy Grill return with the renovation? I miss the old school nature of the restaurant - just not many such places remain in KC - but I do not miss the food. It would be nice to see a restaurant there, same name, same old school character but more modernized menu.
