I think that's the original facade. The building was built at the same time as the parking garage it's sitting on.

I wonder what is structurally wrong with the building? I wasn't aware that parking wasn't allowed on the top deck of the garage.

There was a tree growing out of the roof. Not necessarily a structural problem, but it speaks to the level of neglect.

Just looking at that lot...I'd be afraid to pull a car of any size onto it. Reminds me of a rotted attic floor.

I'm surprised they let the garage deck get in such bad shape seeing that parking is at a premium in the area (Union Carbide Building, former Lane Printing, and Cosby Hotel have little dedicated parking of their own).

that garage is also used by the Kansas City Club for special events and the New England Building.

the surface lots between 8th and 9th are shared with the garage

The Bryant Building, on the southwest corner of 11th and Grand, has been sold to New York investor Hunter Newby and Amerimar Enterprises Inc., a national real estate firm based in Philadelphia. The Bryant Building contains an Internet carrier hotel.

Wow. I just saw it being hauled away, to Haggard's lot. That thing is big.
They must have caught it falling on one of their security cameras. I'd like to see that.

downtown council has moved from 911 main to 1000 walnut. keep hearing that 911 main will be a residential conversion once it's empty.

that would be an interesting residential building. it would be perfect for Walnut to Baltimore corridor growth. There's already some retail spots nearby and it's just two blocks to the empty commerce lots to the NW.

I wonder if Park University would stay or move? That would be a good mixed use for the building for them to stay.

Report: One KC Place debt matures soon, may sell at discount
It’s unclear if the borrower, One Kansas City Place owner Executive Hills Management Inc., would cooperate or resist foreclosure, the publication reports. Leawood-based Executive Hills Management could not be reached for comment by the Kansas City Business Journal, which reported the note sale on May 23.

I walked by the Western Union building today and there's graphics going up on the first floor windows for a survival store/training center. Seems like an odd fit for a largely progressive downtown.

Drove past that today myself and am curious. Completely forgot the name. Can anybody remember what it is so that I can do a bit of research?

Went by again today. It's called "SISU," which is presumably an acronym for something I couldn't discern.
