interesting tidbit is that the bridge and adjacent property is owned by KCMO, but the bridge is entirely on the KCK side of the state line.

Yes it is. The city bought the bridge years ago in order to remove the railroad tracks that went between Kemper and the other buildings and then turned north through the east parking lot.

As the West Bottoms continues to transition, rents will increase and the First Weekend antique-y shops will become fewer and fewer. Is there anywhere left in the metro that could support the number of First Weekend shops and crowds that accompany them?

People make first weekends a destination and travel for hundreds of miles - it would be a shame to lose that completely, even if the atmosphere is different from not being in the WB.

We've seen several of these 'antique' shops open up on Main St and the area around 31st and Gillham. That area would be good for that type of event, especially if you could get the old El Torreon space to participate. They have that massive second floor.

Nice zoomable vintage map of the West Bottoms.

I can't believe how many single family houses are mixed in with the industrial. Imagine living that close to the stockyards!

That's a great map. IIRC there's a big copy (or maybe the original? I forget) on display in the central library. Union Station also has it stamped onto some glass doors in one of the building history mezzanine levels.

That building is 48,000 sq feet. If we can get 48 raggers to kick in $25k each, there is your $1.2M and each person gets their own 1,000 sq ft. Easy.

That's assuming there are 48 raggers.

45 people eating popcorn and staring, judging, watching 3 people build something... with a gondola in the background and a RD4L logo?

Golden Ox apparently reopens this Friday (June 8).

Amazing, I thought this idea was dead, as I hadn't heard anything for what seems like years. Best of luck to them, although I feel like their marketing could have been a little better.

I don't know a ton, but from what I've heard through the grapevine, there were so many setbacks with this project, I think they were afraid to market anything before it was ready to go. No telling how the food will end up, but the decor and drink setup should be terrific based on Insta photos.
