News says police are treating it as a crime scene. ATF, Homeland security, KCMO bomb and arson squad are there.

Didn't the owners want to redo the building. Something about rebuilding that entire corner. Seems fishy.
No other damages or injuries hopefully.

One way to get your steaks well done I never liked that buidling...tear it down and re-build.

From what I heard, the building was on the market and offers had been made. I don't think ownership was particularly desperate to sell.KCPowercat wrote: Didn't the owners want to redo the building. Something about rebuilding that entire corner. Seems fishy.

If it doesn't have street-level retail, it's an abortion.

I went to bed around 12:15 and heard numerous sirens for about half an hour - it sounded like something major. I live in longfellow, but still couldn't get to sleep because of the sirens...

980 had Chief Smoky on today and he said that the ATF would be handling much of the investigation. He also said that if there was an explosion...he didn't want to jump to conclusion that arson was to blame. I appreciate that sentiment but an explosion combined with investigation by ATF/Homeland Security will cause me to jump to that conclusion!!

The terrorists have come for our BBQ.
Re: Downtown Hereford House Explosion
i heard nothing a block away. oh, the benefits of double-pane glass! i totally forgot to look that direction as i headed out for work this morning. while it was an institution and some people will be out of work, it's days were numbered since most of that block is indeed being offered up as a single parcel for redevelopment.

HH should now move to the CBD. Consider P. Ott's, Mango Room, Tanner's old locations please...
The speculation is this may not have been accidental?

The speculation is that it was an explosive device of some sort. Those are rarely accidental.trailerkid wrote:

Too bad for Rod....i'm glad no one was injured.
Prediction: I'd look for them to stay in the X-roads.....not at the current/old/burned site....maybe something within say 2 blocks?

A spot closer to the new PAC would be a good move
Re: Downtown Hereford House Explosion
I have had a dinner meeting there tomorrow night.
Re: Downtown Hereford House Explosion
Don't they still have that brick building(the old beer distributorship) a block to the east where they do banquets?

The Hollywood Room? Wasn't that Paddy O'Quigleys?

I predict the investigation will reveal a poorly contrived "gas-leak" for insurance fraud.

Yes, I thought they ditched that a couple years ago and was most recently O'Quigleys. I don't think HH retained any part of the building.voltopt wrote: The Hollywood Room? Wasn't that Paddy O'Quigleys?
