Downtown Tanners closing?

Post by KCPowercat »

Somebody at work just emailed me that the downtown Tanners was closing.  anybody hear about this?

I haven't been there forever but people who have always tell me how poor their service was...their business after dark has been dying.  of course I am sure the p&l will be blamed.

I hated the bartenders and waitresses, more the bartenders. Arrogant pricks...

really?  tere are two things I always thought they did well..nachos and chicken lips.

so did the fox4 producers flip a coin to blame this on the p&l or smoking ban?

I haven't been there since I lived in Quality Hill, but I went when I was there because it was a trivially short walk to get there. But that short walk had the price of being surrounded with douchebags, paying too much for beer from dirty lines, acid-like smoke destroying your eyes as it failed to go any higher up in the 20-foot ceilinged room, forgetful overcommitted wait-staff, being surrounded by douchebags, and being surrounded by douchebags.

However, it was my favorite steak in KC.

I heard though that the owners of the building wanted Tanner's out some time ago, to make way for an upscale restaurant. Did anyone else hear that?

The one they opened in Lawrence failed almost immediately. It only took about a year before it was out of business. That's where I had their nachos...which was basically stale chips with shredded cheese dumped on top...not even melted.

That would be a pretty good location for a more upscale restaurant, or a really great spot for a KC Hopps concept. They had enough taps, they just put blah kegs on them and failed to clean them.

And the preemptive anti-knee-jerking sarcasm from those who apparently believe no business can ever be threatened or close due to P&L is kind of annoying. I mean, good riddance to Tanner's, but let's be real.

Tanners did gangbuster business while they didn't have any real competition.  While i hate to see any place go under, I won't miss the crappy service.

Here's to something better that will appeal to something beyond the striped shirt crowd.

I liked that place b/c it was big and you can usually get a table no matter what night. The crowd and atmosphere were pretty weak though.

I liked the downtown Tanners, although probably for sentimental reasons. My wife and I spent hours after our wedding there downing beers and eating pizza with our friends after our wedding reception was over.
