Kansas City's Rooftop Gardens

Post by Highlander »

This is a great article from the Star featuring some of KC's rooftop gradens.  I would really like to be able to see some of these close-up and in person.  Lot's of nice pictures in the article.  I guess this would be the best thread for it since most if not all of the featured gardens are downtown.

I think that rooftop gardens are so cool. you get to enjoy a little nature in the heart of a rather non natural environment. And if it is done right, the foliage like what was on the Empire Theater will not end up happening on another building. These gardens are done with a lot of careful planning.
No trees were destroyed in the sending of this contaminant- free message.
However, a significant number of electrons have been inconvenienced.

I'm reviving this.

I would like to know which buildings downtown have any sort of a rooftop terrace.  Not necessarily a garden with grass, but just some sort of an area that is designed to sit and relax on the roof of a building (business or residential).  These are the ones I can think of, please add to:
  • KC Library
  • 21 Ten Lofts
  • 909 Walnut
Any others?

I think Clubhouse Lofts has some outdoor terraces for some apartments and on the roof.
There is no fifth destination.

Wallstreet has the new pool/barbeque area on top of the parking garage (12th floor)

Thanks everyone!  If I move, I think that's one amenity I would like to look for.  I want a place I can sit on the rooftop even if it's a common area for all residents.

Professional Building

By the way, PumpkinStalker, the Landmark Lofts deck has the best views in downtown IMO.

the barkley HQ (1740 main) has a swell rooftop terrace, as does the building that houses habitat shoes and darling room salon (1800 baltimore).

Western Auto building has a pattio.  It is really neat being up there under the glow of the sign.  No garden though.

Really!  I was not aware Western Auto had one.  I know one or two people on this site live there, can someone post a picture from up there?  I'd like to see it.
