That seems like a great spot for a boutique hotel, to me.

There is a proposal for a self storage facility that recently showed up on the city's Development Tracker Map at the corner of Truman Rd and Troost. That seems like a much better location for a Downtown area storage facility.

They appear to be trying to ride on the previous use as "storage". http://kivaweb.kcmo.org/kivanet/2/permi ... 8&jur=KCMO

Tried to sample Strange Days Brewery today, but they were closed Thursday and Friday because THEY WERE OUT OF BEER!

I hope it is because they are so popular and not because they don't know what they are doing.

Bad idea to randomly close.

They sent out their new temporary hours....and they said it was because they sold through it faster than expected....

"Friendly (and disappointing) reminder that we are closed today & tomorrow. Open 12-5 Saturday & Sunday. This is due to low beer volume. We have 30 bbls happily fermenting tho. Thanks for the support and check out another great KC brewery in the meantime!"

Fine, I'll cut them some slack. Still seems kind of hinky.

I'll give them some slack since they're so new. It takes some time to get volume right.

I think they've been doing some special events and early openings too, so I'm guessing they just missed badly on estimates and it's not something you can make up at the last minute.

There's also been 47 tournament basketball games downtown over the past month -and- St. Patrick's Day. That's a lot of beer-centric activities.

Depending on the type, it can take over a month for beer to be ready to drink. It's possible they've been playing catch up since Big 12, less than a month ago.

Two more storage facilities on the fringe of Downtown have shown up in the Development Tracker: One on Woodweather Rd, west of the Buck O'Neil Bridge and the other at 9th and Troost.

All 3 of these locations are in industrial, fringe areas that are much more suited for storage buildings than a central River Market spot on the streetcar line.

9th and Troost has residential apartments at the intersection

it's roughly same distance to the financial district as the self storage at 18th and grand and as the planned river market self storage spot are.

it's no more a fringe spot than the river market is and I bet way more people go to that part of town during the day for work than to the river market.

A bus line follows 9th, making this intersection as capable of supporting TOD as 5th and Grand is.

I would rather not have a storage building at 9th and Troost either, but it is a much better spot than the River Market. There is one apartment building there, but it is mostly light industrial or vacant in the area. They might be similar distances to the CBD, but the two areas are hardly comparable.

Do you think this:

is equivalent to this?:

There's a 2009 google street view available from one spot of the 500 block of Grand if you find it (it's approx midway down centropolis on the east side)
It was just 9 years ago that this block looked a lot like 9th and Troost

that intersection had a brake equipment store, an air filter shop, a storage building, and two parking lots

There's much better spots than within view of the east village. Early residential projects have already leapfrogged this area. It could become a solid redevelopment site within a matter of 5-10 years and self storage would look shortsighted.

Freestyle Poke Joins Emerging Delaware Street Food Scene
The Delaware storefront scene in the River Market continues to blossom, the latest addition being Freestyle Poke, a Hawaiian comfort food place that plans to open in mid-May.

Poke (pronounced POH-keh) is big in its native Hawaii and even bigger in Southern California, and Jeremiah Dupin, a Kansas City native, is bringing it here–via Dubai.

How it’s arriving at 509 Delaware St. is a great odyssey when explained by Dupin’s colleague at Freestyle Poke, chef Kealan O’Boyle.

Collison confirms that a few parking spaces to the north will be lost to add the patio shown in the rendering.

Why do they keep building these places without any parking? I know you people do not like parking lots, you have torn me a new one about it but most people want parking and if people is going to live there they need parking lots.

Parking is a cancer that kills cities from the inside out. Get rid of parking and add places for people -- more space for people less space for cars. It's that simple.

I know people always say that but in reality people have to drive. This is not New York city. Do you not have a car? It would not be easy to live here without one.
