Maybe they want to ease in a bit instead of going for three straight months of summer with no idea if they can meet demand, etc. for that long.

Could actually a decent plan to start up the operation while mitigating the risk of pissing a lot of people off.

That's true.

I always worry about small businesses opening later in the year downtown especially when what they are selling is ice cream....given we are largely an I proven market. I've seen businesses open up in October and by February they've already cut hours because of lack of traffic. But I think this place has a good financial backing already and will be fine.

Based on the article is sounds like this place will also function as a bar with boozy ice cream and beer.

The location in Waldo is packed all the time and out the door line. This second location won’t have any problem.

Which is why I don't think they would have had any problem with an instant rush of customers....

I have no fear they will do well... Crazy things pop I to business owners heads about downtown locations....

My guess is they are a little overwhelmed with the success. I don’t remember them having quite the following last summer like they have now, so might be a bit to adjust. I would think this is why they are adding the second location. Perhaps they will take some of the pressure off the other location. I was worried about the long delay for The Russell in Main when it took them SO long to open, but it seems to have generated some anticipation and they’re packed all the time too.

Bidness owners do not delay opening as part of their strategy. It is usually due to complications with construction, building codes, health department, contractors, etc.

Watch "Welcome to Sweetie Pie's" on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) if you have cable, and you will see how difficult it is to open a restaurant.

Based on social media posts, it appears Betty Rae's may have had a soft opening last evening.

I wonder where they plan to move the two KCPL transmission yards?

I see several parcels they don't have indicated. I would think that west parking lot at the Cold Storage Lofts would be a likely development site. There are also surface lots south of 3rd Street between Oak and Locust.

Be aware this map is from March. Things may have been true then but there's changes already needed for it. Like #6 is now under construction but at the time it wasn't.

Portfolio of Downtown Loft Buildings Hit Market
A portfolio of 259 lofts in Quality Hill and the River Market are for sale for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Newmark Grubb Zimmer is listing the KC Loft Space buildings, according to a release by the Kansas City firm. The asking price was not disclosed. Four buildings are for sale: Old Townley, the Richards & Conover, West Seventh and Opera House Lofts.

Has been a while since I've been to City Diner. Not surprising that avg age way lower than past. Music used to be Sinatra to classic rock, now mostly millennial like Phoenix, Cake to Tame Impala, some contemp folk. Still very basic low brow diner menu (which we were in mood for) with a Thai and Greek salad, some vege items and paninis thrown in though they didn't look appealing.
