For perspective, the cost of the 2006 WWI Museum was $102 million. They want roughly the same amount of money for the Arabia as a national war museum.

WW1 actually attracts a pretty decent crowd, is a much bigger tourism draw, and could actually put the funds to good use. I’m sure STL has a museum that we could split the funds 50/50 with.

If they're going to be spending that much on a museum, it should be the WWI museum. Imagine what they could do with it!

If the state funds the steamboat museum, the legislature should also pass an antiquities law that states all historic artifacts discovered in the state cannot be removed without the State's permission. Make it retroactive. It wouldn't prevent Hawley from digging up more steamboats and displaying them in private museums in Missouri. It just wouldn't allow people to take artifacts found here to other states.

I agree that if the State funds the museum that the collection, and all future additions from digs, become property of the museum. There might be a provision that reimburses Hawley for any money he invested in finding and excavating the steamboats.

I agree that it's unlikely that a museum in Jefferson City will draw more visitors than in Kansas City. I would imagine the Arabia SB Museum draws a significant number of convention visitors, and maybe people visiting one of the casinos, or in town for a concert or sporting event. It might do well in Branson though.

We hit the diner last weekend and it was still same 'liver/onions' type menu and everything ordered excessively overcooked, which is fine for octogenarians who like that but thought they mentioned adapting to 'changing tastes' of neighborhood. Is menu changing? If not, City Diner is place for classic diner eats.

BTW, the Chorizo Fiesta scrambler next door at Opera House is quite good.

Yep. It's not Comic Sans, but still close enough to be childlike and amateurish. Must have used Microsoft Word to "design" it too.

The only thing worse is Papyrus and if you haven't seen the hilarious SNL skit about it, you must.
