Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
If you want Italian imported cold cuts (capicolo, prosciutto, mortadella etc.) try Bella Napoli in Bside or maybe Corrollo's in City Market. I like LaSalla's the place but pretty basic grub. I don't understand the fascination with d'Bronx. 39th one is cool place but it's basic American meats, no capicola, prosciutto, mortadella and is on awful Wonderbread grade breads.bobbyhawks wrote: I've still never been to La Salla's, so I haven't exactly been scouring the town for a good deli sandwich.

Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
This will be a great addition to that part of downtown.
One thing I've thought for a long time is we need to get more small restaurants opening in other parts of the Loop outside of Power & Light. Places that are open late at night and provide takeout for nearby residents.
I would like to see something open back up in the upstairs part of the former Tanner's space at 10th and Broadway. I would also like to see one open in the former Seiden's Fur building, and the former Drafter's space at Lucas Place. The old bank space 21Ten across from the public library.
Other spaces:
601 Walnut Building.

Former PC Warehouse Building at Admiral and Grand.
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=9th+and+G ... 9,,0,-2.99
Two retail spaces in old Muehlebach Hotel building facing Baltimore. One formerly occupied by Country Club Bank. The other a bar space.
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=9th+and+G ... 73,,0,0.13
Retail spaces in the Brookfield Building at 11th and Baltimore.
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=9th+and+G ... 3,,0,-1.62
The retail space in the 1110 Baltimore garage space across from City Center Square on Baltimore.
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=9th+and+G ... 28,,0,5.56
The retail space facing Baltimore in the Mark Twain Building.
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=9th+and+G ... 3,,0,-5.82
923 Broadway (north of Majestic Steakhouse) -- probably could be two restaurants or retail spaces.
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=10th+and+ ... 3,,0,-2.36
First floor spaces in the old Blackstone Hotel at 9th and Cherry. Probably two restaurants or retail spaces.

First floor space in old Grand Temple Office Building at 9th and Grand.

A more formal restaurant in the Scarritt Ballroom space.

Ground level development is awesome news! Are there plans for the rest of the building?

ironically to be able to support those people in the garage mentioned it's going to need expanding/fixingchaglang wrote:That's a shame... could have been a great parking lot.
the garage is effectively maxed out already.
it's leased to residents in one buildings, businesses in two buildings and the kansas city club for one weekly event and now another building!

Here is an old photo of the Cosby Hotel building showing what the interior of the Milwaukee Delicatessen used to look like. Rosin Preservation posted it on their Facebook page.

Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
How great would it be if these guys decide to put up an awesome corner sign similar to the original?
Could really help draw people in off Main Street or lure them further down Baltimore.

they did finally finish the sidewalk along the side of it if you haven't been there recently
it helps someone save all of 30 seconds of walking

As someone who works a block away, I am very excited about this development.

I'm really looking forward to the Pizza 51 aspect of this. We eat there close to once a week and while I'm definitely a fan of the UMKC location, I'm really excited to not have to drive down there anymore.

I'm hearing that the building is anywhere from 6-12 months away from being ready for occupancy. No idea if that includes the deli/pizza or not.

for those who don't get to the area much-smh wrote:I'm really looking forward to the Pizza 51 aspect of this. We eat there close to once a week and while I'm definitely a fan of the UMKC location, I'm really excited to not have to drive down there anymore.
The part I find interesting is they have no dedicated customer parking and will be best walking/biking to. Interesting how that came about.
there's some metered parking on Baltimore but very little. this street is very pedestrian friendly at this segment.
the lot next to it is owned by the office/condo/apartment building next door.
the garage to the west is owned by the owner of the New England Building. it's 100% leased spots
the garage to the east is part of the AMC Tower
the garage to the north is part of the Church building
the closest surface lot to the west is pay for and full during business hours

We're getting a streetcar? I hadn't heard about that.
