That one makes me nervous. I better at least take a hot date when I visit.KCPowercat wrote:The one about cold shouldering peooke that don't look like they should be there......
Odd that the menu is written in first person. Wonder what will happen when he gets fired or quits.

It is weird how they list them. Some sound like they may be doing their own blends of Rye and Bourbon. They say "midwestern" gin - which I assume is something local. And American gin/vodka could be anything.grovester wrote:Are all the cocktails well drinks?
Given their liquor list, I'm guessing "well" at this place is probably Tito's, Beefeater and Jack - which is fine when making coctails, IMO. I've never really understood the high end whiskey/rye some places throw into a mixed drink. Cocktails are expensive enough as it is.

I'm interested if they're old fashioneds or anything near neat, otherwise Old Overholt works for me.
I'd be ok with a custom blend, but would be nice to know the ingredients.
Actually, I'm sure I'll love whatever they're serving.

Our dinner was perfect. Portions are small and it's all a la carte. So confused about what's opening when -- was told a completely different version than what was in Collison's article. Either way, dinner service is happening now and reservations are via OpenTable.

Great! We'll be there often, especially since they will be serving three meals a day. Hands down the best hotel restaurant downtown (behind Reserve and Tavernonna).FangKC wrote:How was the atmosphere Dave?

I had dinner there last night, sat at the bar. Everything was exceptional and the bill was reasonable. Service was excellent. I love this place.
Highlights: the avocado crab Louis, burger, pasta a la primavera
Cocktail highlights: Manhattan and old fashioned

I was disappointed, tbh. The Savoy Grill was the cities high end restaurant of its time. They’ve lost that with the new dinning room space that is totally new, but boring and the bar area that kept the old decor but lost the high end feel. They put couches in the bar to try and fill the space instead of tables. I think they tried to match the gothic style, but the furniture just looked like it came from a thrift store. The booth tables they kept but replaced white table cloths with aluminum covered tables. The food was good, but no where near the fine dining feel. Fish and chips. Hangar steak. Burger. Pretty typical hotel bar food. They missed on opportunity to put a great restaurant in there. The old place used to be a great restaurant inside bad hotel. Now, it’s a nice hotel with a lobby bar. Definitely not the special occasion destination that it used to be.

I hope someone had the forethought to save the old sign, and it's not in some salvage yard.KCPowercat wrote:I was hoping they would save the old sign but that sign is super sexy

The old restaurant died being a "special occasion" fine dining restaurant.beautyfromashes wrote: The food was good, but no where near the fine dining feel. Fish and chips. Hangar steak. Burger. The market changed. Plus, you said the food is good. It will do fine.
