Gah! I need to find out how this is happening.
I've just set the index.php file to 600, though I don't think that's going to help anything. I think I'll try changing the password to some kind of 30-digit key-mashing string like luiO*&t7gyufgyukf5ud65456fgh. Note: the password will not actually be luiO*&t7gyufgyukf5ud65456fgh.

Is there a new smf version available? I had this same issue with a stale wordpress issue being exposed in the version I was running and it kept coming back as new hackers attacked the exploit.

Yeah, We updated today. Keep your fingers crossed that SMF won't vomit all over itself in 18 hours because of some perceived reconfiguration of the database format.
