Forum Moving Again
Forum Moving Again
The forum will be moving this weekend. There is already a working exact replica of it running over at my other hosted site, which I find to be a much more reliable webhost. My own website is hosted there, for example.
So what will happen, roughly, is this:
Saturday, October 13th:
10:00 pm - I will momentarily(10-20 minutes) freeze the forum to take one last database extract, copy it to the new host, and load it.
10:30 pm - I update the DNS to point to the new hosted location. The update should take about 4-6 hours to reach all corners of the net.
10:35 pm - I change the configuration on the forum to point to the temporary url, which is pointing at the same space as the DNS entry will later reflect.
10:40 pm - All users who load the forum will see everything as it should be, but will actually be using the temporary url.
Sunday, October 14th:
12:00 pm(or so) - With the DNS update complete, I will change the configuration on the forum to point everything to kcrag again, instead of the temporary url.
Rest of the day - I sit on outage and conference calls for being oncall at work.

Re: Forum Moving Again
This time the mods have gone too far. Will the censorship never cease?
Re: Forum Moving Again
Can I get a coupon for a free return visit?
Re: Forum Moving Again
So when and how long is the forum going to be down again? I was getting antzy yesterday when it was down for hours.
Re: Forum Moving Again
Where should I park? There was a plethora of parking at the old DNS.

Re: Forum Moving Again
Does the new server have an anchor tenant? If not, it will fail.

Re: Forum Moving Again
Did the forum get tax breaks to move to its new location?
Re: Forum Moving Again
Definitely. Due to cost overruns, the toilets will be manual flush and the Sprint burger will be $9.DiggityDawg wrote: Will the new forum have more restrooms & concession options?

Just incentives. More space and no dependence on cpanel.dangerboy wrote: Did the forum get tax breaks to move to its new location?
Expect about 10-20 minutes of downtime, right at 10pm.

Re: Forum Moving Again
I blame Mark Funkhouser. He appointed the old host to the parks board!
Will the forum move again if the attendance drops below 14,000? Or, will we get an an expansion forum?

If The new host is more reliable than this one I am all for it.
