We could fund a new downtown ballpark every six months...
I was just noticing some of the stats of the casinos.
"Area riverboats are now collectively winning an average of $57 million a month from players. At a 24/7 clip, that’s $1,319 being lost every minute — $21.98 every second — of every day."
Most of the money flows out of town.
I personally like having a couple of large casinos in town, they provide an entertainment option. But these numbers are just retarded.

So what’s the difference in giving our entertainment dollars to some out of town casino owners or giving our entertainment dollars to some out of town ball players and team owners?
I would guess "None, none more different"
Except that, the casinos create greater tax revenue and a larger, more consistent, employment base with benefits like health care and retirement savings.
The sports franchises have very few full time jobs and are always seeking public funding.
The casinos are, on the other hand, are skirting he intended laws (i.e. they are supposed to be boats that can only have gambling while they are putting up the river) and I can't verify this, but I imagine that they are keeping our public officials well paid.
Not to mention that the casinos hire local consultants and integrators to design, install and maintain their A/V systems whereas the sports franchises do not.
PA, are you a Chiefs season ticket holder?

Another question.
How much of that 57 mil get turned back to profit and how much goes to taxes and operational cost?

i've never been to the casinos and i don't plan on ever going, but i am glad they're there.
why, you ask?
because my dad memorized blackjack probability tables and basically took on Blackjack as a second job. he used to go 2-3 times a week and come home $100-1000 ahead every time. then, inexplicably, he just stopped going.

I'm just thankful that ALL that money goes back to our public schools.
None of the promises of gambling have really manifested in KC....no real school benefit, no widespread gambling addictions and no increase in attractive Vegas-style prostitutes. We still have plenty of the toofless crack ho's though.

FYI. Gambling revenues go into Missouri's general they're not earmarked toward education. Not the casino industrys fault look to Jeff City on that one.

Yes, the lack of high quality prostitutes is what is most disappointing. I envisioned KC becoming the American version of Amsterdam but we don't even get the little newspaper stands filled with pictures of fun loving hookers and phone sex hotlines. What a drag.Slappy the Wang wrote: I'm just thankful that ALL that money goes back to our public schools. Â

I've always said that Volker Park should be developed into America's premiere Red Light Disrict, tree-lined with beautiful, Victorianesque mansions of burlesque.Thrillcekr wrote: Yes, the lack of high quality prostitutes is what is most disappointing. Complete with women standing in the shop windows and hashish bars. Talk about a regional draw.Tosspot wrote: I've always said that Volker Park should be developed into America's premiere Red Light Disrict, tree-lined with beautiful, Victorianesque mansions of burlesque.

Well, we all know that lap dances are a terrorist risk, don't we?chrizow wrote: i wish KC could go back to its heady, "sin city" days.

So much for "letting the market decide" and "not letting the government dictate how people live their lives" and all of that.
Re: We could fund a new downtown ballpark every six months...
hey, i don't blame Blunt. he is just following up on his downhome, family-values oriented campaign promises. he is promulgating good, solid Christian policies like prohibiting girls from showing their vaginas, putting mentally ill people on the street, and taking away people's medications.staubio wrote: Well, we all know that lap dances are a terrorist risk, don't we?

Dont worry we can still go to Kansas for lapdances and full nude dancers. One of the benefits of living in a two state metro.

How is Blunt able to enforce his personal will, all by himself, over 5.5M people in MO? Can anyone explain how this works?
