Furniture Stores?

Post by aric »

Hey, can anybody recommend funky, unique furniture stores? Not Nebraska Furniture Mart, Benchmark, etc. -- looking for something different.

Specifically, I was in New Orleans last weekend and saw a furniture store that specialized in imported Indonesian furniture - teak, tables made from coconut trees, etc. Is there anyplace in KC that has that kind of stuff?

Go to the Crossroads. There are a lot of interesting places like Black Bamboo, Aesthetica, Hudson Home, Retro Inferno, Abdiana (basically just a futon store), and another one or two I'm forgetting (cue tat2kc).

Museo on Union Hill looks interesting, but I've never been there.

Oggi on Central is home of all of the hip, urban loft-esque furniture, with ultra-prices to match.

...and there are interesting, cheap hit-or-miss items at World Market in Westport.

Actually, Oggi is the cheapest of any of the places that you mentioned, except Abdiana perhaps. Black Bamboo specializes in Asian antiques, Aesthetica has very little furniture, Retro Inferno specializes in mid-century modern. Hudson Home and Museo are similar in that they don't carry any inventory and you order out of catalogs for the lines that they represent. Both are pretty high dollar.

I think World Market would be your best bet for imported stuff.

Also, Target has a new line of imported furniture and housewares from India, Asia, and South America. ;) Seriously, they do.
