You actually mean that, did you? The buildings in the background of a recorded video are not actually farther away than the buildings in the foreground when you watch the video—they're both the same distance away, the distance from your eyes to the display.

But nevermind, the joke failed.
You're right, and the joke didn't fail. I got a good laugh out of it.

Kansas City gets a shoutout in one of the episodes of Netflix's new show: Ozark. Main woman character says "the Plaza is quite nice".

Bill Murray is in town, has relatives that live in the area. Spotted at 18th/Vine yesterday and Brown & Loe this afternoon, where his presence seriously impacted the preparation of my brunch.

You don't understand. It is not always about actual distance/depth.
Video uses a multitude of effects to create depth and distance; shadowing, blur, etc.
In myopia the eyes pick up what is clearest and focuses on it.
Obviously, in video the buildings in front will appear to be the clearest.
The nearsighted eye diminishes things that are not clearly in focus.
So even though all of the buildings on a pc screen are the "same distance" from the eyes, myopia still affects the vision.
Especially if one is not deliberately focusing on the blurred background.

So it looks like Bargain Mansions will premiere on the DIY Network on Nov. 7th.

I wasn't that impressed with the two pilot episodes - both the quality of the rehab working being done and the production and entertainment value of the show. The houses I have seen that she has done since look like they have improved, hopefully the other aspects of the show will.

Here is the latest home that just came on the market:

This was the house from the pilot:

The one in Southmoreland just sold:

The house in South Hyde Park sold a little earlier this year:

It sounds like she also did one near Loose Park, and two in Leawood (blech).

1.3 million is the estimate of the house that sold?

I watched the first couple episodes of Bargain Mansions. Pretty standard DIY format and show. I really like the KC aspect of the show. The first house (episode 1&2) looked like it was in Leawood and the second house is in Hyde Park. They are doing a good job with establishing shots of KC, driving thru neighborhoods etc. showing off more of the city than just the typical Plaza and Liberty Memorial shots. They do like the shot from the Scout though.

If it wasn’t in KC I likely wouldn’t watch but I’m going to keep up with it on the dvr.

I appreciate that they put some effort in the b-roll and establishing place, but I think they could have done a much a better job. I know I'm nitpicking here, but these are my gripes:

It seems they have just a handful of shots, most of which are repeated in every episode. It seems like 80% of those shots are the Plaza or Loose Park. I would like to see some more variety.

The Penn Valley Park shot is pretty nice, but it's more of a focus on the park with a little skyline in the background. I think they could used more/better skyline shots.

My biggest complaint is for the Hyde Park house. As she was driving to the house, they showed neighborhood shots of what looked like Leawood, which made it seem like this home was in the middle of a Leawood style neighborhood. They could have used some great Hyde Park neighborhood architecture shots, especially from Central Hyde Park/Janssen Place. They used the same "neighborhood" shots for both homes.

Overall, it is clear that the show is trying to be like Rehab Addict, but everything comes up a little short. It is obvious that this lady doesn't know or care nearly as much about historic home architecture/restoration as Nicole Curtis, which would be fine if she wasn't pretending that she did.

Ya, I agree. As I watched te 3rd episode I started feeling swamped in Loose Park and the Plaza. They did have a nice drone shot of Jansen Place though.

Another house redone with the same white tile/quartz and glass aesthetic throughout as the others. She did showcase a couple local businesses which was nice. Unruh made a porch swing and he was great.

BUT, this show really jumped the shark when she painted the historic Hyde Park brick house grey because she “didn’t like the look of this orange brick on the house so we painted it a cool neutral grey.” Wtf? And yes, I was mad enough to take photos of my tv...

Boo! Fucking boo! Will they just give a TV show to any moron with a lack of aesthetics?! I’m becoming more and more convinced Kansas Citians should NOT be involved in decisions related to revitalizing Kansas City. We’ve become too poisoned by suburban “culture”. God damn this bullshit.

I haven't seen the show yet, but after seeing these pics why couldn't they focus on a house that REALLY needed some work put into it? From the outside, this one doesn't appear all that bad in the grand scheme of things.

It was split into a tri-plex and they brought it back to a single family. Only thing they did outside was paint it and put in some basic landscaping. Interior did get a fair amount of work and wall reconfiguration. They removed a couple fireplaces too which was unfortunate as well. I would leave them as decoration even if they weren’t operable. Having watched the episodes so far, they definitely aren’t historic preservation minded folks
