Polishing Up KC's Wikipedia Page

Post by miz.jordan17 »

Does anyone know a thing or two about editing on Wikipedia? I'd love to spruce up the pictures and content on the page. It just doesn't do a great job of marketing our city to prospective visitors.

The images may not show up, but I checked the links and they take you to the Google Photos album.

Reorganized and changed some of the intro so it isn't so haphazard.

Added some images to the neighborhood and climate sections.

And last but not least, I added in a picture of KC Streetcar.

Let me know what you think! If you want me to change anything, I have some time this weekend.

Jeez, you weren't kidding, that article about downtown is pathetic. P&L construction pics, boarded up Mainstreet Theater, a lists of construction projects that are either long dead or finished or I've never heard of. I wouldn't even know where to start. Well, yeah I would, replace the pictures from circa 2004-2006.

I have decent pictures I've taken of many of those places. If there aren't new pics on at least that page linked here within a week or so, someone bug me about it.

I had some extra time today in between studying for finals and I updated the top employers section to reflect the most recent Comprehensive Annual Financial Report by KC. I also redid the Point of Interest section to make it more informative and visually appealing. I made a new collage image for the top of the page as well. Willing to change the information if not everyone likes it.

Had some time to spruce up the Downtown Page. Updated pictures and some info on transit, the convention center, and the Kauffman PAC. There are tons of things that need citations. Even if you just edit a paragraph, every little bit helps. Also, our pages views have jumped, so maybe what people see will convince them to make the trip to our city.

If you're viewing it before and after you make changes, that might cause it to jump, haha.

I moved Walt Disney, someone gave him his own section under history...

I also added a 21st century history section. There's a big gap in history from 1980 to the present that shouldn't be hard to fill in.

subjects of note to add:

downtown population growth
completion of US 71 and the stop lights court order
freeways in general and moving of jobs to suburbs
shrinking of the KC school district and growth of suburban districts in KC
shoal creek and second creek suburban growth, showing KC is it's own suburb
the airport renovation and planning project
Zona Rosa
flesh out P&L planning
sprint center statistics
something on the plaza art fair when it hit it's 75th year especially if there's some third party calling it a top X art fair
royals world series celebration (right now it just mentions the win, can flesh this out)
American Royal history through the potential move out of KCMO
crown center complex urban redevelopment
P&L about how there was no twin and then the final renovation into apartments
Rivermarket bombings, rebranding and renewal
union station bistate
liberty memorial new museum and designation as a national official one
google fiber
Kauffman center
bartle hall and expansion
end of stockyards
suburban stadium complex

I don't know how to edit wiki pages, and I'm not going to learn, but the downtown area square miles listing are all over the map (nyuck, nyuck), and it is not the "densest area of the city" FTR. Not yet, at least...

90% of the work is the NPV wording and finding good sources to back up statements.

If you want to write something up put those two things and someone else can format it for the wiki
