Kansas City Music

Postby WinchesterMysteryHouse » Thu Feb 05, 2015 2:09 pm

Inspired by Chaglang's post of the Numero group reissues, I've started this thread to link recent regional music.
I heard of this group and listened to the entire release this morning. Hot shit:

Not to derail this three posts in, but if you want to wallow in the past of regional music, this will kill hours of your time: http://library.umkc.edu/spec-col/pitch/index.htm

For recent, local/regional, Katy Guillen and The Girls are great... http://kgandthegirls.com/

Crap, there goes my weekend.

I'll mention the Philistines, probably because they do a cover of Revolution Blues. http://philistineskc.com/

if you like Nubiles, this is tomorrow (careful, it's a bunch of suuuuper scary hardcore kids!): https://www.facebook.com/events/394226750741351/
or go to this in March (party fun time punk stuff quasi-associated with Burger Records): https://www.facebook.com/events/604269319704083/

Check out this label's all KC roster: http://highdiverecords.com/

The recent aughts and past 5 years have seen a lot of great KC bands from all sides of the Rock and Roll underbelly

wish I knew more about hip hop in KC, although what I've heard has never really interested me.

I just cruised through the 1987-89 issues. There is so much I'd forgotten about. Club Pirhana!

If I could pick one to go to tonight, it would certainly be the latter.

The best one was Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds at "the loft"? 6th/central? 1985. And lucky for us you can still see the pedaljets!

It was upstairs in 616 Central above Paris Neon.

On the third floor stage/platform, which was later removed to restore the atrium to this building.

Interesting. Was it around long? I think that was the only show listed there in all those back issues.

That's awesome. They're playing Friday night at the Folk Alliance, but I'll only be there Saturday.

Has anyone been to this event before? It sounds like a pretty unique way to see a lot of great music. A friend of mine stumbled upon Sturgill Simpson a few years ago at this event. I can't wait.

I'd never heard of those two until now, but damn. Thumbs up for some soulful rootsy tunes. What great stuff.

I suspect this news will be met with a shrug by most of you swells & sportos but I find this development bothersome. It's like a plot for an 80's high school comedy. Sports shouldn't have cultural hegemony in midtown. This isn't fuckin' Boston, or Olathe ...yet.
