Yeah, I wondered too with new mayor/council. But good to hear that city will still be involved on the solutions side, not the riskier experimental side. There's still momentum in private space despite what KCMO sponsors.

Bob Bennet has started a smart cities consulting firm as well. Based out of KC...

That makes him the second ex-CIO to launch one in KC. Maybe we will see more smart city consulting and tech jobs based out of the area in the future.
What's the other one?

If Sprint/TMobile merger happens, one of the upsides could be some pushed out management who want to stay in KC creating more startups/consulting firms. It happened with Sprint/Nextel merger. A handful of new startups came out of that.

Public works should adopt a smart city initiate of mapping all road reductions and closure and modeling any requested closures to ensure it doesn't negatively impact traffic. This should be an easy one.

Also get some small scale variable signs on key intersections to message for closures or events to take certain routes.

The same initiative could be used to measure traffic flow during closures and lane restrictions to evaluate a street for a road diet.

If they put signs north and south of the Sprint Center on Grand to alert you of closures before you get stuck on Truman or 13th, I would be a happy camper.
