This will be an interesting test to see if KC really has any clout in Smart City space, that is if the 'living lab' draws outsiders setting up base here or not. Not sure how many would be considered a success/failure but if a dozen in a year or so that would be great. A bunch of local startups would be great too but it will be outsider attraction as a good litmus test to KC's clout in industry as a whole.

I saw that, bummer. I assume Seattle was a better deal for many reasons....innovation, urban living, etc.

The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority Board of Commissioners has approved the installation of 66 Smart City kiosks, similar to what you see along the downtown streetcar line.

Wonder if the official Living Lab launch has drawn any players from the outside?

KC seems to be doing pretty well with smart city 'hype' in the media. This isn't exactly a legit measurement but searching Google News on "smart city" "kansas city" compared to other cities shows KC is still getting a lot of attention in media.

Google News search for "kansas city" "smart city" comes up with over 11,000 articles as of today...
https://www.google.com/search?num=40&bi ... btNspo3EEQ

Other cities considered 'smart city' players...
Seattle 9500
Austin 12,300
Columbus 9950
Chicago 19,100
Dallas 7200
Pittsburgh 3750
Denver 17,600
Portland 4300

KC not tops but still getting good amount of attention.
