Cindy Hoedel also was laid off yesterday. I wonder how many more?
Re: Layoffs at The Star
Star buildings for sale 46 million. They will lease back for 15 years.

Re: Layoffs at The Star
Didn't the printing building cost $200+ million to construct in 2007?
Re: Layoffs at The Star
yes. and their tax abatement was very notably extended recently.zonk wrote:Didn't the printing building cost $200+ million to construct in 2007?
Re: Layoffs at The Star
Extended how long you say? 15 years?
McClatchy is obviously hard up for cash. Somebody should make a killing, hope it's someone with vision.

Re: Layoffs at The Star
You will need a lot of vision to re-purpose that building, after McClatchy defaults on their lease. Which probably wouldn't be long.

We already had this discussion. Aquarium.

Re: Layoffs at The Star
Because it's McClatchy and the operations are closely related:
Wichita Eagle sold their building to Cargil last fall (see uninspiring Cargill rendering... not that type of rendering: http://www.kwch.com/content/news/Cargil ... 14316.html) The old distribution sheds out back have already been demolished. Printing was moved to KC last spring, so they truck the paper down I-35 every morning.
They're moving into the bar district. http://www.kansas.com/news/business/art ... 12049.html

Not sure if you're joking or not but I really like that idea.grovester wrote:We already had this discussion. Aquarium.

I like to wrap my fishes in newspapers.
Re: Layoffs at The Star
It's highly unlikely that the structure is water tight. We may have to settle for a terrarium with Komodo dragons and giant tortoises.

As long as it's visible from 670 that's all that matters.

Re: Layoffs at The Star
Why would the building need to be water tight? We're not talking about filling it with water. It's an iconic-type building in a good location for tourists and lots of land around it that would be developed with an aquarium project. And...I'd like to get credit for the aquarium idea when the building was first built.grovester wrote:It's highly unlikely that the structure is water tight. Can we talk about how cool that would be, though?beautyfromashes wrote: Why would the building need to be water tight? We're not talking about filling it with water.

Don't need an aquarium. I'm could see an indoor ski facility for summer or a year round indoor pool/water park.
Re: Layoffs at The Star
Doesn't matter as long as it's boozy.
