This whole time it's been basically equal jobs going back and forth. The media seems to highlight the "KS is winning" jobs from MO side but numbers showed MO was getting those jobs back in other deals.... Not like either side was winning obviously.

ironically it says they're moving in the same building as Applebees which is leaving the KC region.
Applebees moved to KCMO for the same incentives program and it appears they never created or retained the higher number of jobs to get the incentives.

Not really a relocation but a merger. Any chance the KCPL - Westar merger will add employees to downtown KC? Westar is huge for Topeka, it would be interesting to see if many of those jobs move to downtown KC after the merger. Isn't Great Plains in 1 KC Place?

I know the city council proposed a change to the available percentage of TIF for a development. I wish there was a way to allow full TIF for developments that are majority commercial and bring jobs into the core. I understand the need to cut the percentage for residential condo conversions as those have already started to take off on there own, but we need a focused plan to start bringing more jobs into the city. It will stunt growth if we don't get that piece changed quickly.

Garmin wants tax abatement for its HQ expansion in Olathe. Its kind of funny that they had a ground breaking ceremony for this last fall and then wait till February to say- oh yeah and we want you to pay for this.

Garmin is such a conservative suburban place, they would never move downtown. It isn't in their blood.

I've seen various tenant finish permits over the last couple of weeks (but can't find them now) for GlynnDevins, an ad agency currently located on College Blvd in OP, opening a location in one of the office buildings along the southern edge of Ward Parkway. I don't know if it is part or all of the company, just that it is a company jumping the State Line.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of greenfield TIF that gets approved in the metro. Especially in Kansas. People wonder how we become a sprawling mess and why it can be difficult to redevelop the east side and areas downtown? Well, just look at all these projects below. Look at what DT has to compete with for development. Somehow, DT is attractive enough that midsize hotels and apartment projects no longer seem to need incentive, but just look at the Brookridge development and the massive subsidies they are throwing at it. I though that area was supposed to be the nicest in the metro where any developer or business would die to locate? Guess not. Below is just a brief summary of projects, but there are certainly many more one off hotel and apartment projects sprinkled throughout JoCo that get some sort of TIF or abatement.

I think Kansas City has a decent shot at this, but our lack of transit may hurt us.

The North Loop is absolutely the best location.

If KC bids on this for a downtown location, they need to emphasize the downtown airport. KC doesn't have many international destinations (listed as a requirement) but the close downtown airport is great for private jets.

East Village. Or maybe the state of Kansas could give up all taxes in exchange for them to go downtown KCK...or The Legends!
