Massive fire in NKC or Fairfax

Post by scooterj »

There's a huge fire with flames visible miles away.  Lighting triggered maybe?  Anyone know what it is?

Apparently lightning from these storms hit a gas tank and theres a structure on fire due to that. Flames were shooting up very high, well above the trees and everything around by a long shot.

yep...fairfax tank farm....unleaded fuel. as NBC Action New reports.....HUGE FIRE.....Crazy with all the deluge of rain tonight, that it didn't hit this area.

from the tv...looks like the bottom of the tank is buckling.....hopefully doesn't burst!

KMBC reports that it's a tank containing gasoline at the Magellan Fuel petroleum distribution terminal south of the GM Plant.  The terminal facility processes and distributes various varieties of gasoline, ethanol, diesel, fuel oil, and jet fuel.

Firefighters are setting up a perimeter to keep it from spreading to the other tanks at the facility. The burning tank is out of control and it appears firefighters will have to just let it burn itself out.

The tank has been breached and gasoline is leaking out into the containment basin.

They just said that one of these tanks can hold around $2 million dollars worth of unleaded gasoline.
