Downtown: Formerly known as home, now work; great skyline, esp. coming home from the airport
Crown Center: Oddly sterile
Westport: Not the same since it's haunted by the ghosts of Whistler's Books and the old little Tivoli Theater next door
Midtown: Comfortable
Eastside: Too broad a name for many different neighborhoods that many of us don't know enough about
Plaza: Very pretty; turns into a sort of Disney effect after living there
Westside: The gorgeous Victorian bungalow I didn't rent several years ago (kick, kick)
Old NE: Scimeca's grocery, the old reservoir, Cliff Drive
Hyde Park: Homes tour
Brookside: Home; *two* grocery stores!
Waldo: Food: luscious Indian and yummy croissants at Cafe Apanaire
SKC: the Red Bridge bus
Raytown: Where I bought my first car (a Bug)
Grandview: Drawing a blank
Belton/Raymore: Even further off my radar
Lee’s Summit: Why do people drive this far?
Blue Springs: Ditto
Independence: Genealogy library
Parkville: Cute downtown, great trees, park by the river
KC, North: Not the same as Northtown
Liberty: Hardware Cafe in the square
KCK: Westheight Manor historic district with some awesome houses
Overland Park: Generic suburbia with lots of chain shopping
Shawnee: Blank
Lenexa: An old downtown they want to duplicate somewhere else
Leawood: Gating off public streets
Olathe: Those bad car dealer commercials; conservatism

And as someone who grew up north of the river:

Gladstone: Childhood
Riverside: Fireworks
Smithville: Lake
Northtown: a.k.a. North Kansas City (not Kansas City North); where I'd want to live if I had to live north of the river
Claycomo: Ford plant; good mechanic who could never tell me when my car would be fixed
Platte City: Dairy Queen

I'm from Lenexa, so let me explain...Shawnee Mission Main Office is the name of a post office on Metcalf north of SM Parkway. I believe it handles most of the mail that goes to Shawnee, northern OP, Mission, Lenexa, Merriam, etc. (northern Johnson County). However, there is no such city as Shawnee Mission, so you can't say that anyone lives in Shawnee Mission...they may live in the area served by the Shawnee Mission Post Office, but they would be said to live in Shawnee, OP, Lenexa, etc.

Basically, there is no such place as Shawnee Mission, it's just a general term for the northern JoCo area.

Plus the school district- which is about the same area as the postal district. Western Shawnee is part of the Desoto School District- and that is where they built Mill Creek High School.

Shawnee Mission is named after the Shawnee Indian mission, which is in Roeland Park. Another undervalued Kansas City asset!
